EU Parliament confirms 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars

  1. The European Parliament has voted to approve a law that effectively bans the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars and light commercial vehicles from 2035.

The law, which requires that manufacturers achieve a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions from new cars sold in the EU by 2035, received 340 votes for, 279 against and 21 abstentions.

It sets an intermediate target of a 55% reduction in CO2 emissions for cars compared with 2021 levels and a 50% reduction for vans by 2030.

  2. This is wrong on all levels.

The electric cars battery production is very toxic, the power grid can’t sustain all electric in Europe, not today and not in 2035. And all the pollution do not come from Europe, world have major problems indeed but this will not fix it, and will create even more problems.

Better focus on alternative energy sources, synthetic fuel with minimal gas emission, planting trees everywhere.

  3. I honestly think there will be a u-turn on this stance in the next few years. The work that is going on to clean up petrol and diesel engines is pretty advanced now. And whilst the eu represents a large sector of the world it doesn’t represent the largest car manufacturing countries.

  4. Sorry but who actually Voted for this in elections anywhere in Europe ?

Electric cars are only affordable to the Rich & unreliable in winter conditions of most of Eastern Europe.

  5. This is a right move: you have to set ambitious goals or you will never change a thing. We should also have a law stating that the energy produced from renovables can not be taxed.

  6. So…. the fact that gasoline can be made synthetically for a carbon-neutral combustion car, but electric cars still take child labor in lithium production and are not carbon-neutral when you include the whole production process just doesn’t matter?

Honestly stupid law imo. Electeic cars are not free of emissions. A synthetic gasoline powered car could be just as clean. Seems to me like they rather push a specific agenda rather than pushing for solutions and options to get us reduced emissions faster. In the same way that nuclear power would get europe to be greener, but instead we get a shutting down of plants and INCREASED pollution from opening traditional fossil fuel plants again……

Are these people actually trying to reduce emissions or just trying to push whatever they personally invest in?

  7. Typical EU being dumbfucked again.

EV are the most unreliable cars and they want us to switch to this in 12 years?

    – THe power infrastructure won’t handle such a large EVs charging at the same time.

    – They will need a decades to change and install stations and what not.

-Most of the EV charging stations don’t work or might not work in some way or another

-Long range driving with EV it is just so stupid. Wasting your time for 2-3h to be waste on charging.

-Supporting child labor in the name of climate change?

  8. Wife has a new model Y, fuck that car, every 200kms I have to lose 1-2h for charging, You never have the right charger app, every time the fast charger is occupied by a car forgotten there, etc… and things will get worse with more electric cars on the road.

  9. People here in Luxembourg are already bitching about this but the real question is: what other solutions do we have? Obviously we can’t continue the way we did so radical change is required no matter what.
