Regardless of any other idiotic decisions the police made, it’s just great to know that people who’ve been referred to anger management courses can have access to guns. Anyone with more than five brain cells should be able to figure out why that’s a bad idea.
I’ve seen CPS refuse to charge abh when someone in the face with a brick. A few punches to someone who probably committed a public order offence on you first, causing a slight cut, is not ever likely to be charged as ABH.
Police are encouraged to pursue out of court disposals where available, in order to leave overbooked courts for more serious offences.
I do find it bonkers that firearms licensing aren’t doing regular checks on their holders though – a quick look on whatever local system that force used would have shown what had happened, and that DI running the guy through on PNC would have shown he was a shotgun holder – she said he had no prior convictions so she must have looked at PNC…
