One in five homes have not cashed energy vouchers

  1. Which is great for Energy Suppliers as they’ve already been paid by the government for them. Just another cost to the taxpayer for a poorly designed system that inadvertently benefits big business.

  2. These are households with pre-payment meters where the system seems more complex and the households themselves are more likely vulnerable. Given the scale they should find an alternative method of getting the money to them.

  3. I don’t know if it’s more comforting to believe that we have a government that sets out to achieve these outcomes for the poor and vulnerable, or a government that is too stupid to predict these outcomes.

  4. Sending out time dependent letters during a postal strike, who could possibly have predicted this outcome.

  5. British gas are applying credit to meters when the vouchers are sat unclaimed. The money will be added to the key when the customer tops up at the shop. This should help anyone who hasn’t been able to get to the post office, for whatever reason.

  6. Ahh, right!! That’s why everyone is struggling with energy bills, cause they haven’t been cashing in their vouchers!! Wake up, people!! If you can’t pay your bills then just use your coupons!!! And stop being poor!!!

    😐

  7. Corrected headline:

#80% of homes use energy vouchers

Jeez BBC minimise the cost of living crisis, strikes, and Tory ineptitude more why don’t you

  8. What the fuck is one of those? Probably half the problem…

Top google result is a gov.uk page:

    >Getting a discount on your energy bill
    >You can get a £400 discount to help with your energy bills over winter 2022 to 2023. You do not have to pay this money back. This is called the Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS).
    >The discount is automatic.

  9. In the bank the other day. Elderly lady infront of me asks the cashier whether he can help her with a letter. Eventually he reads the letter to her and asks whether she has a pre-payment fob for her energy. She says yes so he tells her to take the letter to the pay point place and get them to help her.

Just one example of people not understanding and thats because there wasn’t one single information stream that had ALL the information in it. No national pamphlet to EVERYONE explaining what was going to happen. Just managed extremely badly.

  10. I’ve still not received my November or December energy voucher, rang the energy company multiple takes, they say they’ll resend it but it never arrives. Asked them to email or text it but no thats not possible, apparently it must be sent in the post.

  11. A lot of people haven’t received any or are missing some months. Also small shops have stopped accepting the vouchers meaning some people can’t get to the likes of the bigger shops(co-op) to cash them. I’ve luckily received all of mine but finding shops that take them is difficult.

  12. Maybe because they made it pretty hard for those who rent from companies who set up the energy accounts for the property, as private renters move on too often.I tried to cash mine, but at the post office was adamant I must have my landlord ID as I didn’t have enough bills in my name. I rent a supposedly bedsit, the paper bill I get is council tax bill. I assume the energy is in his name, I don’t know as they used a company to manage the building and told me to top up a key.
