“Last year, the fee for electricity was raised by more than 80%, and now accounts for up to 16.5% of the annual bill for a household earning £15,200, according to research by charity the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
It’s expected to rise further when the new price “cap” is announced in April.
EDF customer Stephen Ball was astonished to find that his standing charge for electricity will increase by 102% to 45.76p a day when his two-year fixed-price tariff ends. The standing charge for gas will increase by 12%.”
7 quid a month just for standing charge is a piss take.
> The standing charge is not there for suppliers to profit from, but to cover the fixed costs suppliers incur, which have risen by over 86% in the last year,”
So, does anyone want to place a bet that suppliers are definitely, 100%, categorically *not* profiting from the increase in standing charges?
So we all get to pay because Ofgem couldn’t regulate the very industry it regulates and thus multiple energy providers went bust.
And guess what’s the cherry on the cake? No one from the leadership of Ofgem hasn’t even resigned.
Now add on top, that at least 31 energy providers went bust so far. This is by far the worst run regulator at the moment.
>pay an average of £66 a year to fund the supplier of last resort scheme
So a surcharge of low use combined with 20% of the money needed to make sure those who chose to shop around for cheaper deals don’t lose out, could it be more unfair?
All worth it though helps are economy and get are Brexit off a ground .
‘We asked the government to comment but the minister just yawned’
Why does a standing charge go up at all?
I assumed it was somewhat of an admin charge. Am I wrong? What is the justification on the standing charge going up?
Those record breaking profits year after year aren’t going to happen by themselves I’m afraid.
Someone needs to pay for it, and guess who that is?
lmao the average person in this sub doesn’t even know the difference between energy supplier and producer. I see no point in arguing with anyone.
Also you should understand all the non paying free loaders many here like to defend, are getting their bills indirectly paid by these charges and ultimately, you. I hope they make smart meters mandatory for everyone very soon.
