This is an image from my wife’s grandfather’s WW1 paperwork from 1915. He was living in Ft. Worth, Texas (USA). We can’t discern the town where he was born. Unfortunately, we can’t locate his Ellis Island paperwork from about 10 years earlier that has this information, which is much more legible.

My guess would be “Gmain”, today “Großgmain”, close to Salzburg.
