No porn, no Instagram for kids: France doubles down on age verification

  1. Fuck that shit, I wouldn’t trust these systems with my private information. It’s definitely going to be sold the moment they get it.

  2. Good parents keep watch at how their children grow up anyway. Bad parents will themselves grant their children unlimited access to internet, because it allows to avoid actually raising them at all. Giving them access to vpn and what not shouldn’t be hard, and Francs may be able to force their own websites to demand proper identifications, but foreign based websites won’t care.

  3. In other Words, Porn still around and French kids get more Tech savvy.

Fuck the french Lawmakers and anyone else presuming this Garbage to be a good Idea.

  4. What a fucking disgusting lie!

This has nothing to do with the kids!

It’s clearly a power grab from the government to strip citizens of their right to privacy!

Maybe they want to fight back the people protesting so much by identifying them and punishing them for not being obedient, as the people in China, Russia are.

  5. Just a shitty law by people with no better idea to justify their salary, while in practice i assume people will work around it.

Anyway, it’s in the continuity of how things have been going. Every stupid thing you want to do these days, you need to register, identify yourself with a phone number and quadruple identification protocols…

I miss the freedom and simplicity of the 20 years ago internet.

  6. So you won’t do anything to properly tax corporations and the 1% to fund your pension system without raising retirement, but you’ll do anything to basically track down people because of a moral panic that wasn’t an issue for the 25+ years the internet has been around until now?

Look, I’d rather see less iPad kids myself (and fuck social media in general), but maybe put your priorities in better things before you consider touching this, no?

  7. Good, social media has done far more harm than good to society. There is a reason the far right took off when social media did.

  8. Will not happend any time soon
Almost each legislature put that on the table, and it not feasible.
It’s for deflect from retirement reform and inflation.

  9. Id love not to have edgy 15 year olds who think they have a superior understanding of politics based on a 10 minute youtube video on social media

  10. That’s a very positive move. In the current state, a child is exposed to hardcore porn even as young as 8-9 years old. Why? There’s no reason for a child to be watching pornography.

  11. If it wasn’t for porn i wouldnt even know how sex works

And yes I am aware that it isnt exactly always realistic, but its still better then “when two people love each other very much…”

  12. I have changed my mind about this over time: the physical world has these restrictions, and public-sector systems can be made that are anonymous and that don’t track users while still enabling verification, and it would be better to have them in place for the digital world too. It doesn’t absolve parents of responsibility, but fundamentally a Word Wide Far West is not doing good for anyone. The rules need to be enforced.

  13. Fucking great! I really think all governments need to start clamping down on the negative effects of the internet on minors.

  14. So, besides the normal greves that happen in France right now, should we expect to see the kids in the street tomorrow, demanding their instagram and porn?

  15. Totally agree with it, socials made us worse people; while pornography literally transformed our brain. Internet companies exploits our weaknesses transforming it into pure profit. If we care about our future, it is imperative to put in action some countermeasures.

  16. Trying to save the kids has always been a back door to push regressive policies on the population. The real motivation behind age verification on social media is to require the upload of State IDs and take away anonymity.

Why would they do this? Control and profit.

First, it will be much easier for the state to crack down on protestors if they know exactly who is organizing the protests on social media. Second, requiring identify verification will help advertisers more effectively target consumers on social media, increasing their sales.

  17. France based💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
    Best country in Europe.

They should widen the ban to tiktok aswell. And similar shite. I don’t even know what the youngest are consuming these days.
