For the SNP/Greens to have been soo vocal about people having to choose between heating and eating regarding fuel costs, their priorities took a turn in the opposite direction when it came to them having to pay the poor people who were suffering. They deferred the payments until ‘February’ now it might even be March. So much for their concern of the needy.
Tax returns are a proxy for investments and tax-dodging. The public have a right to know if policy makers have vested interests in some businesses or institutions succeeding.
Good for Sturgeon. I doubt that Sunak’s zombie administration thinks there’s any chance of getting in at the next election, so he has no incentive to give the public anything. But we’ll see.

This is a tradition in the US. We should do the same in the UK to make sure there are no conflicts of interest or corruption. Also, they should definitely be paying their taxes.
Is Rishi going to remain in politics long enough for it to matter??
We should go further. Politicians should have to wear jumpsuits like F1 drivers that show logos of every company or person they’ve taken money from.
Good, let’s get to what actually matters. Not “who can use what toilet” pish.
Time to stop falling for the culture war, distraction politics.
Rishi Sunak is richer than all of the rolling stones combined. He absolutely should publish them, but I reckon the only people who are ever going to understand them already work for him.
The question I have is what she does with the money that she does not spend from wages. No sign of any investments at all, including significant amounts of interest (never mind dividends, capital gains). Is she financially literate?
Well done her.
However, why only six years. She has been First Minister for eight years so why not eight years of tax returns? And she was Deputy First Minister for seven years before that so why not fifteen years of tax returns?
Their partners also need to publish their tax returns, this only works if it’s the politician who’s dodging tax but Sunak’s wife is pretty wealthy by all accounts as are a bunch of others partners.
Is her husband publishing his tax returns? Some Tory MP’s have companies in their wives names precisely to avoid scrutiny and tax.
He won’t do this as the Tories don’t play by the same rules everyone else is bound by.
Be fair Ms Surgeon. Mr Sunak said he’d he’d publish his “by Christmas”.
Like those jingoistic WW1 commentators who said; “It’ll all be over by Christmas” – they didn’t say **which** Christmas. 🙂
But Sunak has a “blind” investment trust that he states “has no control over what they invest in” which gets him out of most stuff
Just make ALL tax returns a matter of public record.
All taxpayers have a right to know how much everyone else is paying.
Interesting she does this now Sunak is PM and not when Cameron, May, Johnson or Truss were PM. Makes it seem like a political game rather than a genuine principle of her thinking releasing tax returns is important.
