Sinn Fein now supported by most of the island, Clare is the last Fianna Fail hold-out, Fine Gael still strong with big rural farmers and wealthy areas of south Dublin. [RedC/LucidTalk]

  1. Will 32% allow them to form a government? With the combined FF FG GREEN and the former ff/FG independents seats, more than SF, they may find it difficult to form a stable government. Best guess is that the next government will take time to form

  2. I’m still trying to do catch up with the Dáil and the exact politics of the South – but aren’t Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael responsible for the shit housing crisis, the falling state of the health system and are trying to pin it on migrants to save their own necks?

Would it not be better to at least try for a change?

Not looking a fight, just curious.

  3. Sinn féin support strong across na Gaeltachtaí. Suppose it’s all those promises around irish language they make we won’t see.

  4. Still 2yrs to the next election. FF/FG will shoot up the polls late. As sad as it is to say the possibility of losing your seat tends to motivate politicians more than it should.

  5. Fewer 1/3 of the island is not most of the island.

They might come first in the next election, but who’s in government is up for grabs.

Some people really seem to struggle with understanding that our system of voting is much more democratic than the UK’s. Coming first is not the same as winning.

You don’t necessarily get into government here by winning the most votes on the first count. You get into government by winning the most *types* of votes, and getting those sweet sweet transfers.

SF came first last time with less than 25% of the vote, and they had a big tally outside the Dáil called “Stop The Stitch Up!”

Yeah that’s cool, go gin people up to think that the election was rigged or stolen somehow, real responsible guys.

Activating a large cohort of people with that (false) belief *definitely* won’t have any adverse effects.

  6. Have to ask about Tipp, but how on earth is Mattie McGrath (I’m presuming that’s who the most supported is mentioned in this graph) so popular there? I can see he’s the “he fixes our roads” type but anytime I’ve heard him speak he comes across like a bumbling idiot.

  7. Most of the Island…

Yeah lets ignore the bad maths here and the massive slice of 30 per cent *other*

*Also lets pretend Ireland isn’t a p*roportional representation system

  8. The majority don’t. Always best to not paint a picture with obvious stats that are clear for everyone to see. Essentially their politics should not be imposed on the majority of the people. Consider also the demographic changes that will happen over the next ten / fifteen years, this support will dwindle. I’m not surprised by the support but I thought it be higher.

  9. This would be meaningful if we had a first past the post electoral system, but we don’t. Sinn Fein topping the poll in the majority of constituencies won’t necessarily change anything when it comes down to transfers on the 6th and 7th count, when a lot of seats get decided.

  10. If we were FPTP this would be a big deal but we aren’t so they like every other party they are a minority albeit it plurality
