Sunrise in West Cork with my two Akitas.

  1. My uncle had American Akita, beautiful animal but quite dangerous and unpredictable. Eventually he had to put him down because he was aggressive towards him.

  2. Muzzle your dogs mate. You’re making the rest of us (responsible dog owners) look bad. It’s very simple and won’t affect the dogs in any way. Ask a vet for advice if you’re not sure which to buy. Akitas legally need to be muzzled.

  3. Unless they are tied to your car, if they decide to go, there is no way you’re stopping two Akitas. And they should be muzzled.

  4. Don’t understand all the downvotes where I live akitas aren’t legally supposed to be muzzled, plus my dog is never allowed off the lead in public and is never left around children, don’t see the big problem here lads

  5. Just to address the comments regarding muzzles. This is a back road in the middle of nowhere, with near to 0 potential of coming across anyone. Our dogs are ALWAYS muzzled if we are going anywhere where we might encounter other people and/or dogs.

Having said that, you are all absolutely correct. Regardless of the situation, the dogs should be muzzled. Apologies.

  6. I’ve never seen Akitas off lead.

How do people exercise these dogs adequately?

Walking them on leashes must be so restrictive.

  7. Great photo. They’re such lovely dogs.

My Akita died a year and a half ago. I dream about him all the time. I’d give anything to go for a walk with him again.

  8. Wow. TIL I learned about muzzle laws in Ireland. I guess you don’t have many people getting their faces eaten by but bulls eh?

    Nice pic!

  9. Akita’s can be wonderful dogs when properly raised and trained.

They do have control of themselves contrary to what others have said unlike Pitbulls who should be banned outright in this country.

In saying that, yes should be leashed outside of the house. When visitors are over Anita’s won’t attack if trained that ‘calm’ means nothing to worry about.
