I mean, I’m on board with that. Just saying in Germany you can get an “Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung” from your doctor for painful menstruation for years now. So not sure it really counts as Europe’s ‘first’ only cause it explicitly mentions menstruation.
Im fine with that. Now can we get 2 paid days off for men who just got a vasectomy? And a free bag of frozen peas?
❤ We siesta enjoyers can do some good things.
> as well as the prohibition of surrogacy, declaring the practice a form of violence against women.
That’s quite something to slip in the last sentence of the article without expanding on it any further.
Surely a biological man won’t abuse this by self identifying as a woman since trans women are woman now smh
Will companies not be more prone to men instead of women with such policies?
We are fast approaching a work force that will never have work
So women can get 4 days off every month ?
This is a massive relief for men as well
Spain shall now be known as the Menstruation Nation.
Great! Now let’s make that Europe wide! Us women put up with enough. Besides, pms is a helluva motherfucker.
Right, another excuse for freeriders in public sector.
The company I own had this policy since day one. I have decided on it by remembering all the times my female friends and family told me they wished they could skip work during their periods.I am glad to see Spain following my policy. Andale.
One question, do you think it’s gonna be good or bad for women?
You have two candidates to hire or promote, one of them gets to take extra 3 to 5 days off every month. This simply is a disadvantage for women.
This is bullshit news. Other EU countries don’t need this because they have full paid sick leave from the first day on.
Spain just introduced something for women that is the norm in other countries for everyone anyway.
I get it, periods suck and you can’t avoid them, but i can’t help but feel like this is unfair.
There are women with a really painfull menstruation. Working in that circunstamces should be not acceptable. Many of them prefer to stop the problem permanently, just removing ovaries. My wife suffer endometriosis, which is absolutly unbearable. In her case she is using now some medicines whiches are very reliable and effective. This problem is rather serious, and any mesure taken to make their lives more easy, is a real achievement.
I’m one of the unlucky women who gets horrendously bad cramps every month and I honestly think this is too much. Women are gonna have way worse chances of getting employed. I think for women who work physical jobs a day or two might be reasonable but if you work an office job then being on home office for a couple days would already be pretty good. Then you can still work a bit but could do it from bed with a hot water bottle on your belly.
This is great thing as long as a employee is willing and happy to work in the company. But when she is not, it turns into a tool to have long weekends and free days of for free. It’s not big deal for large companies but can be lethal for smaller businesses.
This is for women with very painful menstruations, not for any woman, but data shows that this same measure already implemented in a few Spanish regions didn’t make an impact and barely anyone used this menstural. Sadly I guess that the few that will will be in the public sector.
I’m really keen on the idea of paid menstrual leave, and better sick pay etc, but there is going to have to be some change elsewhere to make it viable in some jobs.
In the UK, many hospitality industries are scheduled to the pound – and are often understaffed as a result. Fast food companies are often extremely strict – although there is an argument that a lot of profit goes to shareholders – but many pubs and restauraunts have no room left in the budget for staff.
Things are already pretty shit. Without some kind of change to make things more viable, I can see a lot of businesses deciding to just not hire women workers, should this become a lot more widespread.
Suicidal law for obvious reason…
I will get many downvotes but as a man I feel discriminated and valued less by employers.
As good as this sounds, sadly it probably won’t help women. I’ve had awful, debilitating period cramps, to the point where I can’t breathe or leave my bed. But this law will just make more sexists discriminate against women in the workplace sadly.
I don’t understand. If in the Netherlands, you can’t work because you are unable to/sick/pain, you also have a paid leave.
Women have it so fucking good
Feels like a slap in the face for every man with recurring health issues that renders you unable to work for one to a few days.
Welp, there goes hopes of Spain having low youth unemployment and women being treated fairly by the employer lol. And b4 “employers can’t discriminate women”, first you will have to proof that and there are thousands of ways for employers to fire you for some random reasons.
I’m old enough to remember when women wanted equal treatment in the work place.
I spend my first day of period with so much pain, dizziness, nauseas and also diarrhea… I have to go to the bathroom every few minutes.
It’s a nightmare to have that at work, maybe if u work in an office it can be easier… but other jobs like a cashier or low qualified jobs it’s horrible. I just sweat while I’m in pain and I can’t focus.. and I just try not to go to the bathroom… oh also heavy menstrual bleeding, I even stain my pants if I don’t go every few hours to change the pad.
I wish I didn’t have period, I hate to bleed every month. Also most of women won’t take those days afraid of losing their jobs.
