  6. That’s not entirely true since they are capable of orbital flight – it’d just be a matter of rejigging the second+ stage of one of their Long March rockets, or perhaps use of their new hypersonic aircraft they have started testing.

  13. People are bringing up nuclear winter, but also you realise if shit ever goes down we’re getting invaded by most likely the UK right? And if the UK didn’t it would be another major country in crisis like France or even the US.

    If half of England is a nuclear shitshow they will dispatch a chunk of their military and occupy Ireland to be their agricultural breadbasket throughout the crisis and beyond, and even if we all joined a new IRA about it Ireland would once again be too important to not just absorb any damage we could do.

    Our present degree of independence is a combination of the level of resistance the island put up, *plus the UK needing to look good to its allies in the European power struggle around the two world wars*. America cared a little about us cause we’re white so the UK didn’t respond like they did in the Mau Mau Uprising in the 50s, because the UK needed America on side. By the time the Troubles came around they were now totally subordinate to the US and it was generally more bad PR than it was worth to do a genocide in Western Europe.

    But if shit hits the fan hard enough PR considerations go out the window.

  23. Be safe anyway – this map kinda assumes east to west firing but they would actually fire at each over the pacific as it’s a shorter route 1.5k miles versus 7K miles. Be a further 5k miles from east coast USA to Ireland for fallout. So relax.

  25. Nobody will be safe. The devastation will be so bad, all the ash/dust raised into the atmosphere will create a nuclear winter which will drop temperatures globally, killing life/our food supply.

    Nuclear war is extremely unlikely in modern times. The economic ties between the US and China are too deep for them to do anything. We were a lot closer during the cold war.
