A very tough choice for DISY between Christodoulides and Mavrogiannis. Who do you think they should support? And what do you predict that they will they decide?

  1. The best case scenario for a coalition government would be if Mavroyiannis hands control of the economy to someone capable approved by DISY (why not the Nobelist Pissarides).

This will be a painful compromise for AKEL but will ensure that the weakest link of the Mavroyiannis candidacy (the fear of another disastrous handling of the economy) will no longer be an issue.

But this is just wishful thinking and I am painfully aware of how deeply entrenched the “left vs right” divide is in Cyprus politics, which is really holding us back.

  2. It would make more sense to reverse the buttons 🙂

One the one hand Christodoulides running as an independent is the reason DYSI is in this difficult place now and he was the main target of DYSI during the election, one the other hand AKEL is DYSI nemesis so supporting them is definetely not easy.

I don’t think DYSI should choose to be a part of the Government, it wouldn’t make sense to me but they can choose to support one of the two as the lesser evil. But who? On the one hand NX is from DYSI so they are closer on internal issues, one the other hand DYSI is closer to AM on the Cyprus issue.

If AM wants DISY to support him he needs to announce his Minister of Economics to prove he is not Christofias(ofc Christofias identified as a communist and Mavroyannis isn’t even leftist but still) and have some sort of action plan about including them in decision making for the Cyprus Problem

If NX wants DISY to support him he can either try to offer Averof some ministries(AM can’t do that cuz many of his voters would react harshly to this) since his government is εθνικης ενοτητας or just call DYSI supporters and officials to support him (he is the President’s favourite too) since he has the advantage anyway.

  3. This is perfect for DHSY. They have an ex member who in reality is not an ex member he still supports Anastasiadis and his corruption. People actually think Christofides isn’t a right wing DHSY child hahahaha

  4. I don’t think the majority of DISY supporters who voted for Averof will follow Averof if he decides to support AKEL’s candidate out of spite.

It will be like when they asked them to vote “yes” in the Annan plan and 2/3rds voted “no”.

Christodoulides is from DISY, and he was the better man for the job all along, and the result yesterday proves this. Averof needs to recognize this fact and stop acting like a spoilt child who lost a contest.

Several DISY members have already expressed their support for Christodoulides, as well as Anastasiades. If Averof supports AKELs candidate he will face his 2nd defeat within a week, and that will be the end of his political career.

  5. well it’s really not hard at all that’s what they have been planning all along they just used averof as a side show to distract the people , anastasiades wanted christodoulidis all along despite what he was publicly stating. The only logical choice is mavrogiannis everything else is a joke made up by crooks to keep the power in their hands for another 5 years.Of course they chose the young serious -looking christodoulides to fool public opinion into voting for him he has no actual policies he is always shady. Even the fact that he has not turned down ELAM tells you a lot about what kind of president he intends to be….honesty things are pretty worrying about cyprus right now it deeply saddens me. I am sorry if i offended your candidate but those are the realities.

  6. Cyprus is not a real country it doesn’t exist! I live in Israel I have checked a lot of times there is no island there. Stop believing everything they tell you

  7. DISY is now paying for Nikaros’s failed gambit – he was sure of Averof’s lack of charisma and preferred Christodoulides but knew that senior party members would never allow Nikaros Jr. (Christodoulides) to get their official blessing as a candidate. He was probably hoping people are as stupid as he assumes they are and both his candidates would go through.

Now he can’t endorse either 2nd round candidates, because one was AKEL aligned and one is blamed for splitting the votes and running against the official candidate.

Yet people still think DISY’s windfall is Averof’s fault…or maybe it’s just more Nikaros fuelled misdirection.

Let’s recall that Averof was of the few DISY candidates that was openly combative of the hair cut and much more moderate ideologically compared to the harder right folks DISY ranks has filled up with recently.

    Just my two cents.

  8. DISY is convening today to discuss this. Word is the majority of them supports leaving it up to the voters individually, although some have strong opinions for supporting Mavroyiannis due to Christodoulides being a traitor to DISY.
