I live in a small village (about 3000 people) we have 1 train an hour. Which is already reduced from 2 trains during rush hour since the summer due to not enough staff.
In the summer they started renovating the fairly large bike stall area, which was supposed to finish in August (still not finished btw). Today I noticed that QR codes are hung all around the station. I scanned them and to my surprise, the nmbs now want people to pay extra to place their bikes in their racks. 75€ a year IF you have an abonnement. The racks are supposedly guarded by camera which won’t be very effective imo. You will just be able to see how someone steals your bike.
Note it’s a small village how does the nmbs see this as profitable.

NMBS/SNCB trying to do something to help with theft:

Looks like a fenced off area, how can someone without a badge to open the gate steal your bike?
>guarded place
>you’ll just be able for someone to steal your bike
Fenced off area
????
A guarded, fenced of area is all well and good. But you have to provide a free area as well…
Every station has free parking
Lol.
Village of 10k people here. I needs to travel 53minutes to get to a train station & wait there for 30minutes until the hourly train comes by!
I get that it’s troubling when they change a service you had before, or it isn’t ideal.
Any chance that there is something nearby like a school, supermarket, townhall,… Where you can park your bike for free and ….idk walk for 2min to the train platform?
You buy a simple small foldable E step and transport it with you in the train for free.
That station is a crime compared to what we have here in NL.
Ah wel lest just make it free, no camera´s no designated area´s…
Complaong is easy now gey some better solutions
All is see is a free bike rack with camera (you just lock your bike to the fence)
And afterwards people are surprised that people don’t like public transportation.
75€ is expensive, i used their secure parking in bxl centraal and that was 20€/year (2018-2021)
Meanwhile it is free in Antwerp, but not well guarded.
BUT, if you park your bike at the beginning of De Meir you get a well guarded stall for free. It only cost you money if you leave it for more that 24hrs at a time, in which case it is €1 for every 24hrs after that you leave it there.
Balegem station?
Lol. Alsof fietsdiefstal zo’n groot probleem is in Bouwel.

Dang, €75?! A Velo subscription is only €58 for a year…
In Kortrijk the guarded bike parking costs 75 euro a year and the gate was broken (and thus open) for over 2 months. What are you paying for.
