Greens want to block fourth €200 electricity credit for this summer amid Coalition row

  1. I think their position here makes a bit of sense:

    > The Greens’ position is that it would make sense for the Coalition to wait until autumn and winter to roll out further universal energy support to households when utility bills are likely to be higher, with a focus on the most vulnerable households in the interim.

  2. Because their only ideas when it comes to green policy is to slap a tax on something and they’re uncomfortable with the idea of reducing the cost of something

  3. People often mistake the greens for being a progressive party, they are far from it. They have no issue with people suffering for their ideology.

Climate change requires practical action, and the greens go out of their way to prove they aren’t fit to be involved.

  4. Headline is incendiary but they’re in favour of targeted supports for those that need it.

I’m fortunate enough that I’m not relying on this support to keep the lights on, I’ll take it if it’s offered but if it’s redirected to someone who needs it more then that’s even better.

  5. Fairly biased was of expressing it. The Greens want the payment to be *targetted* rather than universal; its clear that there is inequality in how the cost of living hits people, when some are skipping meals to pay for energy while others seem comfortable.

  6. Obviously, typical of the Indo to demonise the Greens.

But I’m not convinced that ‘targeted supports’ would be more effective than a universal credit. It smells of the false logic of means testing

  7. Standard coalition stuff.

FG wants to give it to everyone (inc mlillionaires), the crusties want to give it to scroungers, FF are pretending their not involved in it, SF are shouting about how they’d give everyone double that, esp needy irish people, and the crazies are trying to shout about how the kilorglan to cahermurphy Road is in an awful shtate altogether now.

  8. Yet they do literally zero to support people transitioning to greener energy sources.

Let’s tax those old cars to bits, need to work those cobalt miners hard.

  9. Meanwhile, the energy companies are laughing their cocks off. The electricity credit solves nothing. You’re getting your own money back that you paid in tax, and it would be better off used for other public services. They should have looked at setting a cap on electricity prices/profits.

  10. So sad that so many young people vote for these clowns. I myself did in my youth. These are posh elitists who don’t give a feck about the little man who might be struggling with a bill.

  11. Let’s waste hundreds of millions of taxpayers money for a once off “relief” that won’t actually fucking fix anything!
Government is a shambles, doesn’t matter which party, all clueless deluded gobshites.
