  1. Very sad.
That’s where I went to school so it is strange to see this.

Edit – didn’t realise so many people had a chip on their shoulder about private school education. Interesting.

  2. Police are calling it an isolated incident, so either a note was left by one of the deceased or the circumstances were fairly obvious from the scene, likely a murder-suicide.

  3. My cousin’s at the school, police were there all day today. Apparently there were rumours of gunshots from on campus but nothing confirmed. They’re also being sent straight back tomorrow (Monday) which implies that it was not an attack, or at least not one targeted at the school

  4. This is where my sisters go to school and I’m absolutely shocked. They spoke about how lovely the head mistress was. She wasn’t even there for long 🙁

  5. Weird. My state school primary had a little bungalow where the caretaker would live. As kids we made up a story ( I assume) that the old caretaker killed his family and it was haunted as it was kinda a creepy little ramshackle 1950s building. Hadn’t thought about that since I left it in the early 90s!

  6. First article I read about this story this morning seemed to assume I knew what Epsom College was, it was a way down the article before I was referred to as a private boarding school.

I grew up about 5 miles away and had never heard of it. I assumed it was a sixth form college, I was getting it confused with NESCOT.

A very sad story but perhaps not as familiar a situation as some journos think

  7. It is interesting in every press article that they are not providing the surname of the husband and he is simply “George”. It may be that his surname is also Pattison but for some reason I doubt that. It seemed quite deliberate.

  8. If the cause is what it seems to be assumed to be, it is telling how all the tributes are for her, with none for her husband, even though there is zero further information.

I would not be at all surprised if the assumed unmentioned cause + perpetrator turns out to be true, just because it’s statistically usually the case here. But what a lesson in pre-judgement it would be if it were not the case, especially if it was the opposite to the expected perpetrator, with all these public figures automatically paying tributes to the female and no mention of the male.

  9. I’m very local to the area. The college is open but there is a large house by the tennis courts that is completely fenced off by blue tarp on one side with police present and a police car is blocking access from the other side if coming from the gym area. 3 people in white forensic suits were spotted coming out of the house.

  10. Wow. An entire family has just died, and all people can comment on is how much the school fees cost?
