“The study also found no evidence of Omicron having lower severity than Delta, but data on hospital admission was very low at the time of the study.”
Less than ideal if that continues to hold true with more cases…
People are livid about the pubs closing at 8 but the reality is we’ll probably be in lockdown in January
Where is Wickerman when you need him?!
This is never going to end, what’s the fucking point of anything anymore
Yep, there it is, the most depressing news article I’ve read all year.
>Depending on vaccine effectiveness estimates against symptomatic infection from the Delta variant, this translates into vaccine effectiveness estimates against symptomatic Omicron infection of between 0% and 20% after two doses, and between 55% and 80% after a booster dose.
So are our vaccines basically worthless now? Without a booster?
I’m still on the fence about the booster I’m being offered next Wednesday.
I’ve both of the Pfizers done now because that’s what I was asked to do. I’m not even in an ‘at risk’ category
That is just really shitty, like god damn.
So is there any word if the “game changer” anti-virals are in anyway effective for this?
I’m also wondering wasn’t one of the things about the MRNA vaccines was that they could be really quickly adapted to deal with new variants of the virus, is that not the case anymore?

“There is significantly increased risk of developing a symptomatic Omicron case compared with Delta for those who were two or more weeks past their second vaccine dose, and two or more weeks past their booster dose (for AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines), the report found.”
So…Fortnightly boosters anyone? Maybe we should just have permanent IV drips installed.
I’m seeing contradicting articles everywhere around this variant.
It genuinely seems like no one has a clue right now
Grows 70 times faster in bronchial tissue, but 10 times slower in lung tissue. So a lot more transmissible but less likely to be severe.
Am I the only one thinking how convenient, like don’t get me wrong imagine vaccine works, but how the fuck literally few months in when boosters get announced worldwide, and seems uptake dwindling a bit, and here it is new strain is only combatted by 3 shots, not fcking one two but three for mass effect. Like this sounds like such a bullshit, the million ways virus can mutate it picks a doge where 3 shot is most effective against it. Sounds just slightly to convenient for all the Pfizer business when billions are at stake.
ahahahahah this is so coincidental it’s fucking laughable.
This study is being ripped on twitter and its made on a model not a large dataset. A model made by the guy who got fired fir breaking lockdown rules
Has anyone died from this variant anywhere?
The guy saying that it’s a major, imminent threat to public health predicted in 2005 that 200 million people would die from bird flu. Relax everyone until we get proper study results.
This is why instant lockdowns are needed, without them, you get situations like this where you get a near repeat of the Spanish flu. Stay home this Christmas
Set up another sub and post this shit on it, please for the love of god
This whole thing around omicron and the varying opinions reminds me of a debate I was privy to recently between my brother and dad. Both are covid news mad, even madder than I am. My dad kept insisting it was gonna be worse than delta and that he’d read articles saying such.
My brother kept insisting this thing was gonna end the pandemic as it’s so much less severe.
This row went one for fecking ages. One of them then tried to rope me in and I thought about it for a few minutes and eventually just said “the fact that I’ve read both opinions in many places means likely neither are fully true and we just simply don’t know and won’t know until we’re mid wave.”
It’s a shit realisation, but I think only time will tell. I don’t blame governments for being cautious, but I still don’t fully agree with all measures taken. I sincerely hope it is less severe and its another step towards this thing being over.
But we just really don’t fucking know. And I find that oddly comforting.

Severity is coming out as low in studies
