Moved in to a house where the owner said that this is where the internet comes in. Does anyone know how this actually works? What are all the cables for and what kind of broadband is this?
It could be internet over cable which would mean that you need cabel modem. Or then internet comes to some of those rj45 plugs and you need switch/wlan box for it
In some older apartment buildings which do not have own ethernet network, the internet is distributed through cable network or phonelines to the apartment. If in your case the internet comes through cable TV (coaxial cable network) you would need a cable modem and the splitter which you can connect to TV antenna outlet. For an example, see the Elisa’s cable modem setup behind the link ([https://elisa.fi/asiakaspalvelu/english/broadband-activation/](https://elisa.fi/asiakaspalvelu/english/broadband-activation/)).
Elisa will also show you on their website maximum speed available. I would assume that atleast 250 Mbps is available.
I’ve built some apartments that have the same layout as yours. The thing you are holding is not the internet. It is an antennna splitter for TV and should not be freely hanging like that 😂
The internet however comes from the RJ45 plugs that I can see behind that thing. You need a small male to male ethernet cable from one of them to your router, or you can direct it to another room using the labels that probably should be there.
I can help you more with an additional picture of the plugs behind the thing you are holding and information about your needs. Like do you want an ethernet connection to a room or just a wifi to your apartment? Do you have a router and an ethernet cable or not?
It just works
Oh man, you need to unplug all that junk immediately… That’s not good at all
That likely has also your neigbours tv/docsis connections, dont touch.
If your internet is with cable-tv/docsis you need a modem that is connected to tv-antenna in your living room. It might also come with phone cable (vdsl2 or adsl2) or with ethernet, those are likely rj45 slots that are below that tv stuff.
I have the same system. You need a cable modem from the operator in your region. I think Elisa is the most common with cable internet. I would recommend checking on their site for internet options and if they don’t offer a cable connection to your place, try another service provider. With the modem you have normal ethernet cables and wifi as sharing options so from there forward it gets simpler
this is a cable connection, the black cable is the feed that comes from outside.
Check who your cable provider is and get an internet contract with them if you want to use that as internet.
That splitter is old and might need replacing for good internet.
You should not worry, internet is pretty good at flowing thru a series of pipes.
That is what we in the business call cluster fuck.
Normal cable internet from antena wall outlet can be look like this. From splitter straight to router by coaxial cable. Can be also sometimes RJ45 cable connector straight to router from outlet.
My sister have messy internet like you but she have RJ45 connector inside and going straight from big box to router.
Yes.
If an internet signal is flowing through that black line, just connect a modem to any of the Coax connections in the house, and *boom* internet.
Näkyvät on antennia. Takana on verkko.
You can ask from the operator (or operators) what kind of connection is available for your address. Or the same information is to be found from their website with your address. E.g. https://elisa.fi/kauppa/nettiliittymat/kiinteat-laajakaistat (only in Finnish).
Rj45 has small number writen on them A1 A2 are in or nousu. Numbers with no A are rooms but if they dont have numbering on the other end is just guessing game.
Cable techie here. Without visiting your house i can’t say whether you have Internet over coax or by ethernet.
If you know your operator, ask them for the proper modem.
That coax mess is horrible and I would fix it in an hour! 😄😄
That is cable TV wiring. But yes you can run a signal for Internet over it, but then you need a modem at the end.
My dear sweet summer child, you call that as mess?
