Justine McCarthy: Ireland’s young people are leaving as they are no longer proud to call this country home

  1. Ireland is either complete shite or its “self-satisfied and hypocritical”, looking forward to which side of the hivemind this particular thread ends up biasing towards.

I wish everyone heading off the best though I don’t think this article captures any of the pressing reasons why.

  2. Hilariously stupid article. Trying to make it out that young Irish people are leaving Ireland because of racism and that they’re moving to *checks notes* – Australia and the United States.

You’d want to be some gobshite to pen something like this together.

They’re leaving because the weather is shit, the rents are too high, the gaffs are too small & the only half enjoyable thing to do is drink – and they’re even being priced out of that now due to MUP and rising alcohol costs.

Racism wouldn’t even make a list of top 50 reasons as to why young people are emigrating and anyone who does list it as a reason and then decides to move to Australia or America, where racism is 100x more pronounced than Ireland, is absolutely braindead.

  3. “Russia, eastern Europe and Nigeria busy building Celtic Tiger citadels”

Construction was definitely the number one industry for Eastern Europeans, not sure she’s right about Nigerians though.

  4. the country is unwelcoming and unappealing to people under the age of 45 especially if you dont have a house already….. the transport links are dire its so expensive and rents are out of control eventually ireland will just be full of old people and the super rich

  5. Weird as fuck argument here.

If you were leaving Ireland for *the US* because of racism, it would be because you’re the racist and you want to live in a country where you can be openly racist without consequences. You can even get the cops to *shoot black people* *for you* FFS!

No, young Irish people are leaving for the same reasons they always have – governments have failed to make it an affordable place to live.

  6. “This is why it is important that as many people as possible should participate in tomorrow’s national rally against racism”. What a fucking tone deaf take from this activist.
