Eh, took me three goes.
Best advice is just clock up more hours driving. It takes a certain number of hours to hardwire the instincts, and the more you drive the less you need to concentrate.
If it helps, on my dad’s second test, he got an arse who failed him straight away. Cant remember the exact reason. Sure didnt my dad have gas craic bombing around, lashing around some of the roads he knew.
My dad was a mechanic…
He also crashed his first ever car into a wall when he first bought it. As in his boss was lik3 “are you sure you know how and will be ok” “yeah I’ll be grand”. He was fine, the car was not.
Is the number in columns the number of incidents which were considered less than pass standard? How much worse is 2 than 1?
You could look at it from the perspective that they’re out to get you. But you should consider that they’re trying to test your ability to react to unexpected events on the road to ensure you’re not a danger to anyone. If you feel it’s unfair then you likely still don’t have that reactionary experience to be considered a competent driver
Third time the charm as they say. You’ll get it next time.
Just about to face my first attempt, did you have to wait long between retests? I had to wait over a year to even get this first one. I’m positive, but there’s a dread of messing up and having to wait an age
Honestly the best thing to do is just practice. Make sure you’re getting loads of time behind the wheel to get yourself fully used to driving, and then it becomes a lot less daunting. You had three grade 2 faults on the accelerator and gears, those are the things that should come with practice and getting used to the car you’re doing the test in.
Back when I did it, it felt like just luck of the draw at times. It’s all down to your instructor’s interpretation of not just the rules of the road but the criteria of the test itself. Some might’ve given you pass on things like progression if they’re a more patient driver. Only advice in general is to drive as much as you can to gain confidence and if you fail again, ALWAYS ask for feedback. Especially if it’s a fault you’ve never made before. You either learn something new or discover that your tester is full of shit. No joke, my third one the guy told me he wasn’t allowed to tell me where/how I made faults
Took me three goes and I felt like I did worse on the one I passed.
