Curious on the name of these marzipan rolls? Any recommendations for best ones in amsterdam?

  1. It looks like a ‘Mergpijp(je)’. It’s chocolate at both endsides, sweet cake and jam on the inside. In the supermarket the Mergpijp is much thicker, but it differs per bakery.

  2. I only had the cheap supermarkt ones (small and big, even the weird green ones from IKEA), but I really like them (I love marzipan :)). Never knew there were such fancy mergpijpjes!

  3. Only in the Netherlands will one of the most delicious pieces of confectioneries have a name as brutal as “bone-marrow pipe”.

  4. You can find more luxury ‘mergpijpjes’ at a backery or at the market by ‘t Stoepje ([https://stoepje.nl/](https://stoepje.nl/))

You should also ask for ‘bokkepootjes’. And when they say yes, just answer: ‘o sorry to hear that’ (/inside dutch joke)

  5. I think I recognize the ‘mergpijpje’ on the photo. It’s made by van der Linde (Nieuwendijk 183). They make the best ‘mergpijpje’ in town and also have delicious ice cream. You should go there!

  6. Could be a mergpijp or even a marzipan roll 😁 love them. The mergpijpjes with raspberry in it from the “Jumbo” are heaven 🥰 and not expensive! (€1,40 i think)

  7. Best ones in town are at bakery/ice cream parlour Van der Linde on the Nieuwendijk! While you’re there have an ice-cream cone. Amazing

  8. The ones that Aldi sells are nice. But buy the big ones reuze Mergpijpen the smaller ones are of with the proportions. The Lidl sells very nice bokkepootjes they are also very nice

  9. Looks like someone went to Bakkerij van der Linde on the Nieuwendijk! They call them “mergpijpjes” but they are quite unique there, and you won’t find these just anywhere. The ones at van der Linde are absolutely the best though 😛

  10. Belgium does them too but better, called Marsepino (name alone is infinitely superior but you also don’t get nauseous as quickly)

  11. Mergpijp.. gatver hoe vol dit je maakt maar als je er eentje voor je snuffert hebt dan gewoon ook opeten

  12. My wife and I are thinking of moving here! It’s narrowed down here and 3 other places. I love the Netherlands and love your country, culture, people, places and things! And that looks delicious

  13. Van der Linde has the best mergpijpjes I’ve ever had. I live in Friesland but whenever I go to Amsterdam I try to go to the Nieuwendijk and get some mergpijpjes from them. 🙂

I wouldn’t be surprised if the one in the picture is from them. They use the same wrapper and decoration.
