UK mega-lab generates weather to test homes of future

  1. This can only be a good thing BUT … Will only apply to the best built houses. These are going to be point perfect.

I know new builds get a lot of stick for being shite which is somewhat underserved but lab test to real world is often quite far removed.

Look at snagsure on insta for example. There are premium priced new builds sold as eco home where a number of bodges are identified

Regulation for this is in tatters. Road side quality tests.

Point stands with ground source heat pumps too. With proper fitting and calculations they are great but in the real world they are a rushed job and people get a sub par product.

I digress though. This is great for finding new and improving building practices

  2. Great until these new age development firms slap them up in a few weeks and bodge the fuck out of it

  3. Half expecting to read in 12 months “UK mega lab moving to France due to labour shortages and lack of funding”

  4. Not a lab. Not even attempting to be anything more than an expensive and wasteful showcase for major housebuilding corporations. Pathetic.

  5. Until there’s real regulation in construction, issue will always be that companies choose not to use tested parts together on builds to make the best and most sustainable building possible.

They want to cut corners and ignore safety testing and guidance, so they can build cheaper and make more money

  6. Three years and countless pounds later: “we should insulate more”

    Passive House industry: 🤨
