Of course, if you ask a pomak he’ll tell you he is bulgarian mohammedan.
Macedonians were part of old Bulgaria, but their state is failing and we do not care about them because we will pick a fight with the Greeks and Serbs, and for what? A country with no economy and hates us anyways?
Pomaks and ethnic turks that are born in Bulgaria are always welcome, even if they are not born here, most of us do not harbor any hate towards them
The map is weird, Torlak is the term for people born in the Belogradchik area.
Yeah, likewise the other way around – these groups consider themselves Bulgarian. My parents are ethnic Greeks, they moved to Bulgaria when I was a kid and I have a Bulgarian ID, and all of my friends consider me as being one of them pretty much
I don’t consider anyone anything, but I can’t speak for the rest of us.
Pomaks are bulgarians that converted to islam during ottoman times and that stayed muslim after our independence. But yes we view them as bulgarians, just a different flavour of bulgarian, same as the bulgarians in bessarabia and southern ukraine. By torlakians u mean the people in eastern serbia? Then yeah, thats also the case. Macedonia is complicated, they dont view themselves as “bulgarian” so its different, the other groups i mentioned have very clear belief that theyre ethnic bulgarians, thats not the case with people in macedonia
Yes.
I consider them to be whatever they tell me they are.
So why exactly are you asking those questions and what motivated you to do so? Just curious.
Well, I’m from Serbia, Niš specifically, and I’ve always felt “more at home” in Sofia, than in Belgrade. I think Serbs from the south and the east of Serbia share much more characteristics with Bulgarians than we think.
Disclaimer: no one from my family is Bulgarian.
I don’t want to ruin it for ya, but all Europeans are Bulgarian 😉 /s
Pomak means Muslim slav/Bulgarian
As long as they identify themselves as such which should be allowed for all people.
We believe their language and by extension state is a daughter state from Bulgaria which is a controversial topic
It’s wrong to consider someone’s identity without having their personal say about the question. I am a Bulgarian, but that doesn’t give me the right to say who is and who isn’t a Bulgarian. That depends and differs from person to person
I’m half Pomak from Smolyan region and I can say that people here don’t like when ather people think they aren’t bulgarians
Yes
The “Nowadays macedonians” (not to be confused with the ancient Greeks macedonians) were a nation created by Stalin to serve the Serbian interests in the Balkans thus serving the Russian interests. Before that the people there considered themselves Macedonian Bulgarians. As for the pomaks – we consider them mixture of turks and bulgarians, or perhaps turks that speak bulgarian.
As a Bulgarian I consider all of them as people with Bulgarian origins however from all these different cultures I would say only pomaks and Macedonians don’t identify and Bulgarians.
I am pomak and I don’t see a reason for me not to feel Bulgarian.
Do the French consider the bretons french?
Technically Bulgarians created the world, so we consider everyone a Bulgarian
Of course!
They are Bulgarians, there was an attempt to brainwash the Pomaks that they were a separate nation but it was largely unsuccessful. Sadly, the attempt to brainwash our brothers in the region of Macedonia was much more successful and probably irreversible. Even if modern-day Macedonians don’t consider themselves Bulgarians, their grandparents certainly did tho.
Actually we consider everyone to be Bulgarian, every single person on this planet is Bulgarian, everyone except Turks, they are the enemy
yes
I am from north west Bulgaria and we call people from Montana and the region torlaks.
edit: Something interesting and not trying to offend anyone, but Torlaks have quite a round head.
Torlaks are living pretty far from Macedonia but yes – they are considering themselves Bulgarian.
Torlaks are Bulgarian and speak Torlak dialect which is a transitional dialect from Bulgarian to Serbian, but is closer to Bulgarian grammatically. My grandpa’s family comes from Bosilegrad region (now in Serbia)
