  1. Lights on the bike would be a big help, also all decent bike clothing is reflective anyway. What was the speed limit of the road? Anything under 50kmh the driver should be able to stop easily without having to slam on the breaks.

  2. Wait a bit and there will be comments on how this is the car driver’s fault… I witnessed a near miss 10 days ago that still gives me nightmares. The cyclist in front of me didn’t respect the stop sign and nearly got run over by a car. I kid you not, a second slower and he would have been under the car tyres… And I would have been witnessing all giving me PTSD while, a) I didn’t overtake him because it wasn’t safe to do so, b) was keeping a reasonable distance when we reached the stop sign, c) the car that nearly hit him had the right of way. It wasn’t even a case of being seen… it was broad daylight. Cyclists in Ireland have a Darwin complex.

  3. Cycling during day time is reckless enough given how many people I see looking down at their phone when I’m out

At night time too is asking for trouble

  4. I used to cycle to and from work for a solid 6 months, 20k there and back. I was lit up like a Christmas tree even in the heavily lit city areas. High-vis jacket, flashing lights on bike and even those wraparound luminous bands on my ankle and wrists closest to the oncoming traffic.

Absolute reckless gobsite this fella is. One of these days he’s going to end up under a truck

  5. A lot of cyclists and pedestrians think that if they can see the car then the car driver can see them. Sadly not the case.

  6. Where’s the lad who proudly states that hi vis doesn’t work and he refuses to wear it as a driver should be able to see the pinprick lights on bikes.? He’ll be along in a moment I’m sure.

  7. Christ! Very easy to see how someone could have an accident when he’s dressed like that and I wouldn’t blame the motorist at all. Be very easy not to see him until too late.

  8. Sure, the cyclist could have a bit more cop on. But if you can’t see this cyclist then you need your eyes checked, you are driving too fast or you shouldn’t be driving full stop. It’s on you.

  9. I bet the driver was also going too fast to react to the danger.

Hi viz is nonsense. Been proven time and time again.

  10. And the e-scooter brigade! Jesus, if your gonna go up the centre of the road on a souped up kids toy at least wear a high vis…

  11. Hi vis isn’t adequate for safety and it shouldn’t be promoted because it makes cyclists think they can be seen. Every cyclist should have lights.

  12. This is illegal. Lights are required after sundown.

Its a shame we don’t have proper bike infrastructure. He would be much safer on a greenway without all the cars around.

  13. E-scooters are even more lethal, I’ve seen people riding them with no lights/reflectors at all, all dressed in grey or black. It’s an express ticket to the a&e at best

  14. Some people are just asking to cause an accident.

It’s pitch black and the fella decides, today he’s just going to camouflage himself in the dark.

  15. This guy is an accident waiting to happen. I pity the poor driver who is unfortunate enough to be the one that hits him when it (inevitably) happens.

  16. To all the cyclists who have those super bright flashing lights on their helmet or handle bars. They are really annoying so annoying you can’t easily miss them. So thanks keep using them, they work really well on a dirty wet night when traffic is bad and you are cyclists along side cars with their light on.

Anybody not using them consider how much pleasure you can get by annoying drivers and get them.

  17. Cycling is so popular especially on roads it’s about time they require a licence. It’s makes no sense that cyclists can be on a road and not have to prove that they have even the slightest understating of how to be safe on it.
