La République has fallen. Mozzarella, Prosecco… this is like the Battle of Pavia all over again.
Not surprised it’s does well. I dont like cheese but Mozzarella has such a light taste that i have it. It adds a nice texture difference.
Camembert doesn’t go well with pizza so what did you expect
France is the greatest market for Italian Mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano in the world since 1971 and there is no sign of that changing
For Parmigiano Reggiano the 2nd one is The US and 3rd Spain.
Surprised it wasn’t the case before to be honest, outside of being soft camembert and mozzarella don’t have much in common and are eaten very differently.
You can put mozzarella in sandwiches, in salads, on pizza of course… I never see camembert eaten other than at the end of a meal on a cheese board.
Sadly I’m pretty sure that the enormous majority of this mozzarella has nothing to do with mozzarella di buffala coming from Italy, but is generic industrial garbage coming from Lactalis factories in France or Germany that ends up on frozen pizza or the likes.
gg wp boys
also brie is loved here, camembert not so much but brie is fucking YES PLEASE
Love mozzarella for many things, and eat it more often, but on those occasions when you get a really good camembert and you bring it home and it stinks up your whole house like dirty feet before you even cut into it, and then you cut it and it melts all over and you put it on a piece of bread and you eat it and it’s got this strong nutty, pleasant but almost sour taste, there’s nothing like it.
On the other hand, it sucks when you get some camembert and it doesn’t really melt and then it tastes like ammonia and you know you just wasted your money on a bad one. Mozzarella won’t let you down like that, but it’ll never take you as high either.
Surprised it took so long, and better for the French people as mozzarella is really good
I once witnessed French and Italian guys arguing about this.
Things got so heated they started fighting. After the police arrived they were both charged with fromage affray.
Everyone was making bread and pizza at home during lockdown. There was even a shortage of baking and pizza ingredient. I literally saw people fight over flour bag.
I don’t understand why those two cheese are compared ?
Camembert is a cheese you eat at the end of the meal while mozza is mixed with entrance or the main plate.
I see mozzarella is rather a competitor of emmental and/or fresh cream than camembert.
Mozzarella has no taste. Feels like waste of money.
Parmesan and mozarella are my favourite cheese by far. Thanks Italy!
The comparison isn’t really relevant.
France has thousands of cheese. And many ways to eat. Camembert is “competing” with after meal cheeses, like brie, bleu, munster etc.
Mozzarella is pretty much one of its kind, and it is mostly eaten as starter or as topping for food, not at end meal. Would make more sense to compare its sales to chèvre or emmental, although they aren’t really close either.
So it’s literally like comparing apples to oranges.
So much winning for Italy
Mozzarella is extremely versatile and appropriate for many types of uses; camembert is great for cheese platters and with fruit and wine but just isn’t as versatile.
I see no love for Gruyere in this thread and that worries me.
I like chaource cheese though, although it is very rare in New Zealand. Camembert is another favourite of mine too.
Burrata > mozzarella
fight me
*Quick cough* MAMMA MIAAAAAA
Man, the far right always speaks about the dangers of cultural replacement, but the real danger has been at our frontiers all along ! We should close the mountain passes
Because there are 2 pizzerias on every block in France
