The issue for me is why in 2022 does a Irish citizen still have no legal right to housing. This kinda kicks, that said I wouldn’t want anyone to have to sleep rough.
My spidey sense is telling me thst this might well be a test case being put forward by an interested party to try to set legal precedent. Whether they’re members of the legal profession looking to open a new way of making money off the state or activists/NGOs trying to get something done, I feel the tingling of a hidden hand
Edit – spelling, lots of spelling, I think I need to get glasses
We’re such a soft touch, they’re coming over taking us to court.
Is there any way an Irish person who has paid 10 years of tax can get a little something to help with the whole no houses situation or do we exclusively care about people who just showed up with one arm as long as the other?
Asking for a friend…
The brazenness
He is right. The Ukrainians get everything because of the colour of their skin. Refugees here years and nothing has been done. Hope he gets what he wants.
It’s irrelevant. It isn’t like there’s loads of available accommodation and they are refusing to sort the man out. There is no accommodation in Ireland. If they had a place they’d give it to him.
“That Afghan should stop looking for special treatment, and go homeless like the Irish instead!”
Except unironically from a lot of posters.
It’ll be an interesting test case. If there is literally nowhere left to house an asylum seeker(not refugee) is it a breach of law, or is it sufficient to show that he’s in the queue to be housed and he’s not being discriminated against in any way by the state?
The Irish state is a joke. It’s one idiotic dead end after another with these guys.
Wow… just wow.

The man says he left Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, crossing various eastern European countries before travelling to France in a container. He says he spent three months in Calais before being transported to Ireland in another container.
I have no sympathy.
If it was asylum he sought, he would disclosed this in France rather than get smuggled into Ireland.
I’d say anyone injured in the brawls in the asylum centres will have a case too.
OK. OK. OK. Waaait waaait waaaait.
Right down the bottom of the article.
Now I’m all for immigration and helping out refugees. BUT crossed eastern europe. Got to calais in a container then ireland in another container. Arrives by breaking the law and then sues for special privilege to jump the queue of people ahead of him?
Let him stay sure- but leave him on the street till its his turn like.
Is there a prevailing fantasy of Ireland in the developing world, as some land of milk and honey where accommodation grows in natural abundance ? Because I don’t understand why so many would skip through that many developed nations more better equipped to accommodate them.
The country feels likes a deck of cards that is collapsing. A joke. And this carry on from the Refugee Council will only fuel more racism.
I thought this was fake at first, by one of those far right groups to cause a scandal but no… Is real a guy who travelled through several EU country’s to come to Ireland is going to court about the lack of accomodation ridiculous , asylum tourism
I wonder if this man is living in Waterford, there’s a couple living on the streets in Waterford city and have been there around a month or so.
Play the ball not the man lads. This guy is just exercising his rights under the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol WHICH WE SIGNED UP TO! If you don’t like it write to your local td and tell them you wish to leave the protocol.
Get fucked
Good for them. I hope they win. It’s a disgrace how asylum seekers have been treated
