I collected old photographs when I was around 14. I bought this in an antique store when I visited Krakow and I obviously have no idea who she is. Now my question is what does the written text on the front and the back say? Is it even polish? Thanks for any help <3

  1. It’s a photograph of one Marya (old spelling of Maria) Zarembianka (old form of daughter’s surname after the father’s surname Zaremba).

It was taken at a studio called T Jaworski Atelier Adela located in [Pasaż Mikolascha](https://lwow.home.pl/pasaz/pasaz.html) in Lviv.

The second photo has an envelope stamped by National Industrial School in Lviv stating this it is the likeness of the student Marya Zarembianka, with a date of 20th Dec 1912.

I’d say this is a photo she submitted to be included on her graduation diploma or for the school’s own records.

Pedagogical University of Kraków holds [this digital copy](http://pbc.up.krakow.pl/Content/5891/PDF/SprPaństwSzkPrzemysłowej_1912_13_Spr145.pdf) of a report for the school year 1912/1913 from this very National Industrial School in Lviv.

On page 32 you can see Marya being listed as having studied that year in her second year at the department of Drawing, Painting and Model Making for Men and Women.

It’s possible that the photo has made its way out of the archives at some point and was being sold at an antique store.

  2. It’s her name probably. Marya Zarembianka or Marya Karembianka.

  3. Dyrekcja potwierdza tożsamość osoby uczennicy Maryi Zarembianki. Lwów 20 grudnia 1912

  4. Management confirms the identity of student Marya Zarembianka, December 20 1912
