The degree of work needed to bring them up to spec seems the big drawback. Article gives a good list of the problems. Meanwhile the state has buildings in good repair with utilities in place and meeting fire regs but they seem to be off limits. Kilkenny Castle, Emo Court etc and so on could all be used or half of the property taken over. Very mixed messaging otherwise on the issue.
Very interesting to hear on the radio just there that the Pembroke Road Resident’s Association wanted to host 600-900 refugees in the old Royal Hospital on Baggot Street in Ballsbridge, and secured a million euro in funding plus a developer prepared to do the work, only to have the Department decide the work would actually cost €17m (??!) and decide not to move ahead.
Puts a spin on the constant whinge on this sub about “why aren’t there any in Ballsbridge?!” anyway.
Shouldn’t have come to Ireland when they had places to stay in other countries. How cna you go to Germany, France, Poland etc. as a refugee and then switch to Ireland as a refugee? I mean you’ve already been settled in one country. You’re not longer a refugee.
Anyways. Ireland is clearly full. I got sympathy the people already here that are suffering from this. Irish or not.
