  1. That’s what they did in Moldova and then they said “See, the Moldovans were illiterate, we brought books and civilization to Moldova”

  2. There’s this one ideology that comes to mind when I see this… Funny how they accuse other people of doing what *they* have been doing for a year now.

  3. With all the issues they’re having in the war, they have time to spare with this non strategic one?

  4. Fun fac is that they banned Orwell among other authors, you just know what is hapening when your country bans Orwell.

  5. Destroying books seems to be a thing. Religions do it, governments dot it; I guess the main reason is to control people. Keep them illiterate and uninformed. Any thought will be provided by the State or the Church. You simply do not need anything else.

Fuck these people, I like books.

  6. Heinrich Heine famously said: “Those who burn books will in the end burn people”. Sure, they’re not burning books here, but it’s quite close.

  7. I think Ukraine started burning Russian books earlier and people were like it’s to strengthen national identity and get rid of soviet propoganda , this is just next level stupidity on both sides , books are supposed to be preserved and studied even if they are written in your enemy’s language regardless of the author . We saw this shot with the nazis and the burning of priceless research and both are acting as idiots (I am not supporting russia here , Ukraine did the burning of books written in russian and I am disappointed , I expected better from them)

  8. I get why Russia is doing it. They are a nazi regime but why is Ukraine doing a similar thing to all books written on russian.

  9. Because banning/ burning books always helps to enlighten people and bring change for the better.

They should look it up in a history book. Oh, wait…

  10. Burning of the books, a traditional fascist event. Looks like Kremlin does not want to spoil the memory of fascist traditions.

  11. Just like Heine always said:

“Where they burn books, they will, in the end, burn human beings too.”
