‘Some daft imported ideology’: Alex Salmond accuses Sturgeon of damaging Scottish independence push with trans row

  1. TIL trans rights – laws already in existence in the UK for years and decades – is an ideology imported from ‘elsewhere’.

Also, wasn’t there a meta post on less anti-trans spam?

  2. When you’re so into getting independence for your country that you’re willing to ignore the existence of 1% of the public in order to get it. If this was all happening 10 years ago we would have had people arguing that we should abandon the “imported ideology” that homosexual couples are equal to heterosexual couples and should have equal rights to them. Perhaps the most absurd thing about all of this controversy is that the bill itself actually has no impact on access to single sex spaces, the disinformation surrounding this topic has been relentless.

  3. The only imported ideology is the transphobia that has been imported from the US and largely supported by hate groups that are either US based or heavily influenced by anti abortion etc groups from the US.

Nearly all of the arguments against the Scottish bill have nothing to do with it and are arguing against rights and protections trans people in the UK already have (e.g. the right to use single sex spaces etc).

edit: I can’t reply to the person who replied to me as it looks like they have fallen foul of the restricted comments stuff, but its worth pointing out that while TERFs and anti trans stuff was around beforehand, its only really taken off here like this in the last few years. Hell I’m even seeing a lot of the “drag artists are bad” BS rhetoric that very much is imported from the US too. Its worth remembering that trans protections were included in various bits of legislation in the 2000’s and it was no where near as much of a hot potato as it is now!

  4. And here is todays anti-trans thread. It’s as if nothing was taken into consideration with the conversations at all yesterday.
