Sinn Féin mortgage plan to cost €350-€400m

  1. Should this be under housing? If anything cost of living, as nothing to do with easing housing crisis, not that any government initiative has actually helped that in recent times.

Anyway, voted Sinn Féin last time, but really hard to see how they would implement as of these ideas.

  2. People on variable mortgages took the chance that their rates wouldn’t increase as much as they have – there was ample opportunity and warning of rate increases from ECB well before June so very little reason not to fix at something well below current rates. Don’t push compensation for peoples avoidable mistakes onto the rest of the country.

  3. Mortgage relief to people experiencing hardship with rising costs, estimated cost by an independent body 350-400 million for one year.
That’s bad, booooooo sinn fein! You’re so stupid and ugly ugh!

Government gives every household 600euro to help against the rising prices of electricity, distributed over 4 months at a cost of over 1 billion euro. Acceptable!

I’ll never vote for sinn fein again, stupid make no sense economics.

The 1,500 euro to each household that has a mortgage would help people in arrears to catch up, it could mean that they keep a roof over their heads, help stop homes being taken over by the banks or vulture funds, stop families from being homeless and ending up on a housing list that doesn’t have accommodation for anyone.

In a housing crisis, it makes sense to keep families in homes, I don’t understand why people on this sub decry this.

  4. This is nonsense. I vote in their direction but a subsidy for home owners at a time when interest rates are very close to all time lows is insane!

  5. Yeah, let’s help in the continuation of our corrupted economic model. Let’s help the banks conjure more imaginary “money” into existence. Let the masses pay for the privilege by charging them interest on top of their labour. Let even more people carry the millstone of debt around their necks. Yeah Sinn Fein , party of the people alright

  6. Oh for fuck sake this is ridiculous.

Now watch the other parties have to support this or they lose votes.

  7. I’m very happy they think about young people, and the way they want to keep them in country, because that’s what this scheme is about, isn’t? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) /s

  8. Up to a maximum of 1500 per person, why should people with a mortgage get X3 what renters got ?

“It’s their home”, I’ve never seen someone play rent on a house they don’t live in.

  9. If you are balking at 400m that would actually ease the burden on struggling families, while FF/FG have put billions in the pockets of their friends and family through dodgy tenders and constant enterprise relief (build an apartment? Sure have a couple 100k for your troubles on top of the sale price 😂😂😂) then you are part of the problem.

  10. In the Netherlands you can get claim back childcare costs and mortgage interest payments from your tax bill.

If the state was to subsidise homeownership to me this approach makes more sense. Obviously there’d have to be controls on interest rates and the max value of the property etc.

  11. there’s absolutely no way they should be getting further reliefs while their properties have risen in value so outrageously over the past 10 years.
