The case for a land value tax is overwhelming – Natural resources are quite different from the capital stock created out of human effort

  1. Sure as long as we get rid of council tax

If not then make it so any home less than a million is tax exempt

The poor should not be punished for getting a home

  2. Coming from the US to UK it was shocking to find out that landlords don’t pay the annual tax on their property, and that the burden is on the occupants in the form of council tax.

  3. The burden of this tax would fall on multimillionaires with acres and acres of non farm land, it would fall on builders who sit on land rather than build houses and it would fall on supermarkets that hoard land just in case they want to build something. It would not fall on the average person with a garden.

  4. This is an excellent idea.

Why can’t we pay nurses or care workers more? Because our nations money is locked into property that can’t be taxed unless someone moves or dies.

This is not about punishing the rich though, as much as they deserve it. It’s about modifying the system to release capital back into a better share across society. Because the way things are going, the system is floundering.

This is not ideological, it’s necessary.

  5. Instead of having more taxes why don’t be replace old ones instead. Because I know they won’t get rid of council tax and have this, this will be as well as council tax and all the other taxes we have these days.
