  1. Hi! I’ve tried searching the sub but haen’t been able to find exactly what I’m looking for.

I’ll be visiting Helsinki later this week and was wondering if there is anywhere closeby (accessible by public transport or easy to get to) where I would be able to ice skate on a frozen lake or similar.

I’ve been using https://www.vesi.fi/karttapalvelu/?theme=finnhice&teema=jaanpaksuustilanne to kind of keep track of ice thickness and was wondering if maybe I’d have a chance if I visited Lappeenranta on Lake Saimaa?

If anyone has any recommendations, that’d be amazing and I’d be extremely grateful.

Not sure if it’s relevant but I’m a figure skater visiting from Australia and will have my own skates.

  2. I forgot to ask in my previous post. How early does public transportation operate in Helsinki? I am looking to take a tram to the port for a day cruise. I have not booked because I am not sure if the tram operates at a certain time.

  3. Hi, sorry if this is not the appropriate thread but my husband is Finnish and we want to move to Finland in the next 3-4 years. I am not a EU citizen. I am dual citizen with USA. I don’t speak Finnish (though I will try hard to learn it) and I’m a lawyer. Practicing law in FI is likely out of the question.

So I’m wondering in what industries do you see foreigners or people who don’t speak Finnish well? For context, I went to university and law school that Finnish people would recognize (think Harvard/Stanford/MIT etc.) and I currently work at an international firm so maybe the name will be recognizable. I’m guessing international corporate/consulting type jobs may be ok with no Finnish but I assume they’d have Finnish clients. I don’t care too much about salary. I’m mostly concerned that I’m not employable 🙁

  4. Hei

There was this finnish website where you could buy coupons/vouchers for ferries? Maybe someone can share it?

  5. Is there enough demand for electricians that an American could join? I don’t speak Finnish but I’m learning and I think I could reach B2 if I was in the country

  6. hey guys, we’ve just moved to Elimaki and for the moment we dont have a car around all the time. Is there anyway to order groceries delivered home here ? There is an S Market here but I’ve checked and they do not do deliveries. kiitos !!!
