Is this true? (Also is this true for other towns and cities near the czech, slovak, german, belorussian and ukranian border?)

  1. Lol no. This is probably a random derelict building, maybe not in Suwałki. Suwałki is fine, other towns are fine. Take a look at street view on Google maps, Suwałki looks awesome.

Edit: here’s a post just below this one in my feed about Szczecin, which is on the border with Germany. You can walk on a bridge across the Odra into Germany, it’s a nice walk. Szczecin is also awesome. https://www.reddit.com/r/poland/comments/114ia3d/szczecin_what_a_beautiful_city/

  2. I know that towns near Russian border were heavily benefiting, but it’s not the case anymore, I guess.

  3. Wilno is primarily visited by Poles, Lwów as well (maybe not so much now, but normally it was). Would those cities also fall without us?

  4. Nah I lived for 20 yers before Lithuanians and where fine now it’s just more fancy shops

  5. Plenty of cars on Czech and Slovak plates in Bielsko-Biała, but the city would be doing alright anyway.

It’s kinda funny, I remember going to Czech Republic to do grocery shopping when I was a kid

  6. I’ve been to Suwalki. It’s a shit hole. People are weird and rude. The weather sucks, it is always cold and gray.

  7. Yes it’s true. Lithuanians could buy half of Poland with a single minimal salary they get in asbestos factory.

  8. How will the free markets survive without the 42 Lithuanian babuskas and their 80 euros per month pension lol

  9. I just realized, I don’t know anyone who has been to Suwałki.

  10. Podlaskie voivodship has a 1,2M population, and the whole population of Lithuania is 2,8M people. The impact of cross-border shopping is undoubtedly significant and positive to Suwalki and the region, but not that important. Poland is a much bigger economy than Lithuania and Suwalki would still be OK with the border temporarily closed.

  11. Lol, no. Suwalki has a Special Economy Zone with plenty of factories locates there. We also have Kartacze and Sękacz, you can’t beat that, though

  12. That’s only true for Iceland that heavily relies on foreign tourists.

However, there are a lot of “tourists” in Poland who come not for the tourism, but for the cheap dentistry and plastic surgeries. As a result, there is a big demand of doctors speaking foreign languages, and it’s not uncommon for an Icelandic doctor to move to Poland due to higher salary-to-living-expanses ratio.

Also, a lot of Germans living by the eastern border go to Poland for cheap shopping. And back when you could get a flight between Poland and Iceland for less than 10€, Icelanders would often fly to Poland only to buy some cheap alcohol.

  13. Suwałki are backrooms of Poland, but we keep all Lithuanian people here

  14. L thread with people seriously replying to a meme 🫠

  15. Never heard of Lithuanians visiting Poland, only about them buying shit in Biedronka 1km from their border.

  16. I most of the cities best Czech, Slovak, German, Belorussian, Russian and Ukrainian border would be doing good, at the russian border theres no people even coming to poland so

  17. As a Czech living close to Poland – we are shopping there fairly regularly (once or twice per month) and so do most of my colleagues at work.
