In response, Mr O’Flaherty said: “What can I say? Anybody that loses a child, your honour, it is sad. I was 40 years driving, that is all I can say.”
Sad? It’s a little more than sad.
I wonder what the careless driving was?
How can he even want to drive again, is there no remorse? I guess he is one of those damaged people who fabricates a nice reality for himself in his head. Pretending that what he did wasn’t that bad.

Absolutely terrible
Even if he apologised, which he should have been doing at every opportunity, it wouldn’t take any of the pain away for the parents.
Sometimes there isn’t enough punishment for justice to be served. I hope the parents find a level of peace eventually, I know if I caused them this pain I’d do whatever was in my power to mitigate their pain.
I couldn’t get my head around this story yesterday. The poor child and her family.
I would wonder how the truck driver sleeps at night having been responsible for this child’s death but having read the article, it seems like he genuinely doesn’t really care and has no remorse. He only cares about himself.
Would he really not notice the crash as it happened?
I feel thats just lie
Ah here. Kill a child with a non road worthy lorry and give the father a brain injury and get your license BACK?!
The judges in this country and the courts as a whole need a serious fucking looking at because between this shit and the EXTREMELY played down sentences of domestic abusers and pedophiles it’s sickening to see. I can’t fucking imagine what it’s like for the parents.
There are no punishments for bad driving in this country. Our laws just let drivers away with anything.
Shocking he never apologised. Crazy to think he has offers of work when he gets his licence. I know nothing can replace the hurt those poor parents are feeling but proper justice should have been served. It’s awful and makes me so angry.
I absolutely cannot imagine the torture this couple have been put through…what the actual f**k.
He’s been offered work by coach companies if he can get his licence back? Seriously??? So he could be driving busloads of kids to school or matches soon. This is so, so wrong
The poor parents.
Isn’t there a way to put these joker judges under some form of scrutiny/assesment? Make a pledge to review these types of cases or demand case be reviewed by an EU body or something?
It’s absurd and wrong what you read about the judges in Ireland. They might be the most corrupt body in this country
A nice one judge, doing your bit to help the psychopaths of the world avoid consequences. Good lad
He seems to be looking at this like it was a tragic accident. He was found criminally responsible for the death of a 3 year old girl through negligence. He killed her.
The poor parents she would be 9 now.
I feel sorry for the gardai. They didn’t want him to have his licence back either . I was thinking similar when I saw a sex offender as per usual got a slap on the wrist. They deal with the criminals and they deal with the victims and their trauma. They do their job and the judge spits in their face
If you lose your license then you should never be able to be a professional driver again. He doesn’t need a license to drive a bus to drive to hospital.
“What can I say? Anybody that loses a child, your honour, it is sad. I was 40 years driving, that is all I can say.”
Then goes on to say he had job offers lined up from two bus companies. That judge deserves to be fucked out on his ear.
Not one but two coach companies are willing to employ a driver whose license was revoked due to careless driving.
The fact that they can employ him and there is not vetting process for a public services carriage licences or whatever it is is a problem in itself.
The fact that they are willing to employ him is bonkers anyway from an optics point of view.
how does a population vote out a judge?
I read this story last night. What the actual fuck is going on in this country? I always hear the “we don’t have enough cell space” excuse but this fella never saw the inside of a cell, got a driving ban, and then got said driving ban reduced after an appeal. He killed a young child and caused the father to suffer a brain injury. What does the perpetrator’s illness have to do with anything? Leukaemia is terrible but you can’t use that illness as an excuse to have your sentence shortened.
> Mr O’Flaherty said that since the driving ban, “I haven’t been driving and I haven’t been working”.
> “I live in a rural area, very isolated. I am three miles from the town and there is no public transport. I have only a bicycle.”
Seems a bit tone deaf.
> While in the witness box, Judge Comerford put it to Mr O’Flaherty that his driving “did cause terrible damage”.

What a cunt, didn’t even apologize.

So do lots of other people who didn’t kill someone but can’t drive because there’s a 6 month + waiting list for a driving test! Those people seem to figure out a way to get around.

That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.
[Wasn’t he given a slap on the wrist for impersonating a Garda and pulling people over before too?](https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/truck-driver-guilty-of-impersonating-garda-25942084.html)
What a shambles. Not only should he never be allowed drive again. He should be locked up. No culpability or justice in this country.
If you want to kill anyone in this country, just do it with your car….
Absolutely fuckin disgraceful
It’s not the first time he’s been in trouble with his driving either. He should have been jailed and had his licence taken away for good.
