Y’all have taken hotdogs to a new level. I really enjoyed them
I like Heinz better than that sweet applesauce ketchup that is put on the hot dogs in Iceland. Always wondered how it would taste as a substitute on the standard “Einn með öllu.”
Wrong ketchup
When we first moved to the US, my mom and I figured out we could find or make everything CLOSE TO Icelandic hot dogs EXCEPT the mustard. There just isn’t any kind of mustard in the US that comes close. We looked everywhere. So, often we’d just have one with “everything” except mustard.
As for the hotdog itself, there are various ones that at least have the same texture, but not the same flavor.
We always import the Icelandic mustard to switzerland when we go to vacation in summer haha
If you wanted Vínarpylsur but for some reason weren’t able to get them you might be able to find something referd to as Danish style hotdogs vínarpylsur are tenicaly Danish style so whatever you find might be similar enough.
Also a local tip on one way to make them taste better, find a beer that’s a good mix between cheep enough for you to not care about losing a pint of it and good enough to not be piss water and boil the hotdogs in that, my dad taught me that trick when I was a kid, I will note this tip probably only works with Danish style hotdogs I’ve never tried it with anything else tho so if you’re braver than me go for it lol.
