    Laskiaspulla or vastlakuklid has Estonian roots and history, this roll pastry was brought to Finland by the priest families of the coastal region at the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century. It has also been a tradition in both countries that on the following Tuesday, people slide down a snowy hill on sleds and chanting traditional spells in order to get a good and abundant harvest for the following year. Laskiainen also begins a 40-day fast (where the name of the day comes from, i.e. we descend (laskeudutaan) into fasting), during which traditionally no meat has been eaten at all and the main food has been pea soup seasoned with cheese and mustard.
