  1. I want to run a mile from any government issued payment mechanism.

    > the digital pound would not be anonymous because the ability to identify and verify users is necessary to prevent financial crime,” they said. “This is essential for trust and confidence in money and therefore wide use of the digital pound.”

  2. You can already get through life using almost entirely digital money. I don’t see what additional benefit an actual CBDC pound would give… It would certainly bring more government surveillance

  3. Oh aye definitely trust this upstanding government not to abuse this at all. If they manage to do it at all cos let’s be honest they don’t have a fantastic track record of anything digital.

  4. Digital currency is lacking as a description for what it actually is. The innovation is in programmable currency that can be edited on a whim where every interaction is tracked in a virtual machine. A typical use would be programming in an extra tax on certain purchases with just one line of code, or automatically blocking purchases if the system detects someone on benefits is buying too many luxury items. There’s almost no uses for it beyond more central control tbh.

  5. Is this a way to just create a massive amount of new money. Then distribute that money to the super wealthy. Kind of like what’s happened with QE.
