  1. Dog bites put 9,000 a year in hospital. Why is the law toothless?

Two recent deaths highlight an alarming rise in attacks. Are we in denial about the dangers, asks Katie Gatens

  2. So much irresponsible breeding around. In the article – who the fuck breeds a Rottweiler and a Shar Pei together? Two aggressive breeds of dog and you have no idea what mix of traits it will have

  3. As a dog owner myself I think you should need a license, or at the very least you should need one for owning certain breeds. After all people have to get licenses for ‘exotic’ pets like tortoises and lizards so why not for Rottweilers? If you don’t have a license the dog gets seized

  4. Humans kill more every year

Why are is human breading allowed uncontrolled

Surely we need to make sure there is no health conditions and that human pups will be housed in proper conditions in areas that can support them

  5. because making owners legally responsible for damage done by their animals, instead of using the animal as a scapegoat, would negatively impact fox hunting and their yearly blundering through hedges and killing family pets.

  6. Simple answer. This is the same country that campaigned to save dogs before people when the last planes were being hurried out of Afghanistan

This country is quite literally dog mad, and any laws to curtail dog ownership will be an instant vote loser

  7. 13 million dogs up from 7.6 million 10 years ago? If that’s true then it’s a huge rate of growth – most people don’t have the lifestyle that can accommodate a dog IMO. I’m not agsinst people having them but do wish people had a bit more thought as to whether they were capable of properly looking after and training their pets.

  8. The other day I was running and saw a old frail guy with a great Dane type dog that was absolutely huge. The man stopped quite a way Infront of me obviously aware his dog would react. I saw the dog getting excited at me coming their way and pulling and the man was struggling to control the huge animal. I made the choice to cross the road but a kid or someone else may have had this gigantic dog jump at them. Not saying the dog would have hurt anyone but it’s so weird to me that these animals are not that controlled.

  9. I wonder if there has been a marked increase in dog attacks over the last few years. Feel like there is a news story on a dog attack, every other day.

  10. Everyone can speculate but the resources ain’t there and until then nothing will be done unfortunately.

Certain breeds need to be banned and the ban needs to be enforced but without the resources we can only speculate.
