you know you’re democratic when you can freely say you aren’t… unlike china.
The question is wrong. The map is about perception. People do not think Poland is democracy because main public debate between government and opposition is that PiS destroyed democracy. Which is wrong. They did a lot of bad things but there is as well a lot things exaggerated by opposition and EU.
All in all we are at USA level. So let’s assume for a second this maps is not garbage. Would it be reallY THAT low? Don’t think so
One more to add. Poles are harsh on themselves. We aim to be economy like France/Germany. We would like to have democracy as perfect as possible so probably some Scandinavian level. Etc. we also point out way more about our government than we praise them – and I think thats beautiful

Because 44% of poles voted that their country is a democracy… that’s it man, it’s not because Poland is somekind of authocracy or a totalitarian state as some politician say

Breaking news. China’s population dropped by 17% for unknown reasons
Short answer? The thing that by law should stay independent ( courts, press, churches )from the government are slowly becoming corrupt. The government is simply becoming oppressive. This is (while not the only) one of the biggest reasons that Poland is so low 🙂
Because buying votes doesn’t really feel too democratic. Especially if your country is piss poor and that money really could go elsewhere and make it better in the long run.
Because Poles are aware that our democracy is being eroded by the current ruling party
