I have to agree with PvdA here, making statements like this dependent on politics is bullshit.
It was a horrible crime by the Stalin regime to deliberately let the famine continue but there is debate among experts wether it was a genocide. There was no specific ethnicity targeted but a social class of people. It was mostly an attempt to weaken or even exterminate the wealthy Kulak farmers class. The famine took place in the whole USSRs food producing regions from Ukraine to Russia proper to Kazachstan. Ukraine was affected the most since they were the primary agricultural region of the USSR.

Voor mijzelf vind ik het vooral interessant dat PVDA, een partij waarvan aanhangers (wereldwijd) de morele equivalentie stellen tussen de Amerikaanse “moorden” in Somalië, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.. enerzijds en het systematisch aanvallen van Oekraïense burgers, hier nu, mogelijk wetenschappelijk verdedigbaar, struikelen over de centrale voorwaarde van intentie.
Hun conclusie mag dan misschien academisch niet buitensporig zijn, hun methode (“alles is de schuld van de VS”) is nog steeds corrupt, en ter selectieve verdediging van authoritaire regimes.

How odd, I had previously read the claim that when the UN had made a definition of genocide the Soviet delegates had, at the directions of Stalin, vetoed any definition of genocide which would include the many misdeeds of Stalin; like the decossackization, dekulakization, the deportation of Crimean Tatars, and the Holodomer.
However, I am not an expert on the matter.

Pretty defensible for PVDA in my opinion… They’ve tried to take significantly more stupid positions than this. Genocide shouldn’t become an overly stretched term, and something not being a genocide doesn’t lessen the crimes committed.

Verrevan een fan van PVDA – en dan druk ik me zacht uit – maar in essentie is zo’n erkenning natuurlijk wel voor een deel symboolpolitiek. Tenzij het leidt tot meer sensibilisering en onderwijs over die gebeurtenissen. Als dat de nuance is die PVDA wilde maken, vind ik dit nu nog niet de meeste idiote positie die ik ze al heb weten innemen.
Vanuit macro-perspectief heeft het Parlement gewoon toch ook belangrijke punten op de agenda staan, zou ik denken. Maar dat terzijde.

Om “genocide” vast te stellen is intentie een noodzakelijke voorwaarde. Volgens de [wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor_genocide_question) is er academisch debat of die intentie bij Stalin aanwezig was.
