We should never have let the likes of Huawei get involved in critical national infrastructure either – GCHQ specifically pointed this out.
Fuck any company that supports that kind of thing.
That said, no CCTV cameras can be a data security threat if you follow basic infosec guidelines. CCTV cameras themselves should never be accessible to the Internet. If you’re worried, swap out the NVR for a known trusted brand and hire a decent IT/network tech to fit it.
Closed circuit cameras shouldn’t be connected to any external source hence the name. This is also something that likely coulda been resolved with a software change. Screams of a waste of money to me, but not my council so I couldn’t care less.
Do they still need to be access on IE9 with an ActiveX plugin?
Random observation – anybody else notice a significant uptick in China related (even loosely) stories on this sub? Seems somewhat artificial to me as this sub never had anything like this for years. Almost seems like it’s on purpose to keep China in the news across Reddit and not just /r/worldnews
Is that more waste of Council Tax payers money by ..er… Conservative Councils?
