This church is important to my wife’s family, as some of them are from Norway. But I can’t identify the name of the town to find the church. Anyone able to help?
Kvikne Kirke. But damned I can read cursive, but that was a difficult one.
Kvikne Kirke is the only one that was built in 1764 in Norway. It looks remarkably similar and can still be viewed on Google maps. However, the name on the back of the photo doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the direct building of the church so perhaps he was just one of many people who helped build it?
IMO I don’t think this is Kvikne Kirke.
Looking at street view the ground is flat all around Kvikne Kirke, the one on the photo is more on a small hill.

Skabu (Skåbu), Norway
Church mentioned in our family history as having been built by our great-great-great grandfather Johannes Karsberget(? Could be Korsberget) in 1764.
This picture was taken by Jamie (Waynes son (?)) when he was in Norway on his honeymoon
Edit: I think it is Korpberget, as a Per(Peder) Jehansen Korpberget was in charge of the build of kvikne church, and when the church was moved in 1790, his son Jehans (Johannes?) Pedersen Korpberget (1753-1822) was in charge of the move with the help of his father and others according to the church records.
On this page it says that Kvikne church was built by Per(Peder) Jehansen Korpberget from Kvikne. Jehansen is quite similar to Johannes (as written on the back of the photo). It is not uncommon that names get changed through the years, especially in families moving across the pond. I think your family history is quite correct! https://www.kirken.no/nn-NO/fellesrad/Nord-fron-kyrkjelege-fellesrad/kyrkjene-i-nord-fron/kvikne/

Google maps, same view:[Kvikne kyrkje](https://www.google.com/maps/@61.5740727,9.5882426,3a,48.8y,325.03h,104.54t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1st2boDZ3e_XviXT-bFOX9pA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) FV255
So this photo is of Kvikne kyrkje, not Skåbø kyrkje although the two are very similar:
Here is [Skåbø Kyrkje](https://www.google.com/maps/@61.5285451,9.4153948,3a,75y,80.94h,105.38t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sh-DUw_XwoyfDLwsdDiGGTA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192)
Dette er ikke Skåbufjella ,helt sikkert
Skåbu
You will get more information about the picture and your family if you contact grete.bakken@nord-fron.kommune.no.
She is the church ‘guardian’, ‘kirkeverge’ in norwegian. The names mentioned are still in use in Skåbu/Kvikne.
That handwriting is very nicelooking but also entirely illegible to me
