This has been going on for years and years. I’m curious what depth the investigation will actually wade into. It sounds like a nightmare to investigate.
I worked for Scottish Power in ~2014 and this was common practice. The culture in the company was pretty much staff versus customers. I can only assume British Gas is the same.
If you have been put on a ppm recently under warrant, I would suggest getting in contact with your supplier to revert it back to a credit meter (if you want of course). If they start messing you around put in a formal complaint with them.
