  1. Reminds me of the time an American colleague of us came over and I overconfidentally said I’d explain the Dutch menu to him…

    Only to then be encountered by a menu of “Vogelnestjes, Spitskool en Röstis”. My colleague was laughing how I was fumbling over my own words trying to give a somewhat accurate translation. “What, a bird’s nest?! What’s a Rosti?”

    Belgian cuisine can be a pain to translate to English. XD

  2. Story time: A person I know was doing an internship in a psy hospital. They were receiving a professor from France. Another intern came in the room abd mentioned that dish was being served (French people are using the term “paupiette”).

    The professor looked at her and slowly moved his hand to the emergency button, while saying “obvious symptom of schizophrenia”.

    He could be convinced that it was an idiotism.

  3. Recently we had on the menu a ‘mindful filet of place with scents of Mediterranean potatoes’. Illustrated with chicken legs. I’m still very confused why I got fish.
