Hello my friends from Luxembourg . I found this thing at the Rhine river shore in Cologne. Does someone know what the heck it is? It’s made out of metal.

  1. Looks a bit like the “stones” they put into the cremation chamber when someone who died is burned. The family gets to keep it after to have something additional in remembrance.

Especially the size and the number make me think that it is something like this.

  2. Is it cast iron? Looks like it. Luxembourg used to be (not sure if still is) a big producer of cast iron. It’s what initially set the foundation for the European Union – a trade union between producers of metal (Belgium, Luxembourg and Netherlands). Perhaps it is a block for quality testing purposes, since it says Luxembourg on one side and a serial number in the other.
