Crime is on the rise in the city, what can be done about it?

  1. From the articles you can most of the time read that its minors that commit those crimes. And our current systems are ill equipped to deal with that problem.

The current governement even tried to lessen the already small consequences for those minors by introducing a new law concerning the protection of minors.

So what can be done you ask. Well this year theres the elections, so dont vote for the current governement, since they clearly showed no interest in taking care of this problem.

  2. i got my phone stolen in the middle of the gare a few years back. guy just grabbed my phone and pulled out a full on knive. there were people all around and nobody gave a f. dude just ran off and told me hed stab me if i follow. french speaking guy. i followed to check which train he goes in.
i immediately went to the police right next to the gare and they proceeded to put me in the waiting room for almost 3 hours then laughed and said it was my mistake for looking at my phone in the gare and that theres nothing they could do. they couldnt check the camera footage because thats only done in serious cases?? and when i got pissed they threatened me. so if your question is what can be done about this id say nothing as people seem to have lost their balls.
i could knock you out and steal your stuff midday in the city and nobody would even look

  3. Maybe wake up the police and media? News “articles” to the tone of “a mugging took place somewhere, the suspect was dressed in black and ran away. the police are looking for witnesses” does zero to help identify people and reinforces the feeling that petty criminals are protected instead of prosecuted.

  4. Apparently the Lux government only gives a shit about landlords. One thing that could be done is to look up for houses on sale in the areas where we hear news about mugging and violent attacks. Then call up the realtor/owner and quote half the price as the asking price because of the prevalence of crime in those areas. If they see the housing demand being impacted, then I have a feeling the crime rate will come down.

  5. I’ve been trying to understand what is being done compared to other projects and safety seems to be neglected. Maybe we need to make a petition so the chambre picks it up.

  6. I was a victim as well, they kept me distracted while scaring and swiping my wife’s belly to try to find some explosives to steal.

  7. Surely more can be done, but the police can be very reactive, going by one recent experience I had. I saw a guy breaking into cars in the city in broad daylight. I called the police, gave a description, and 2-3 police cars showed up exactly a minute and a half later.

  8. I never had a problem and im always around the gare but I’m seriously thinking about a career change, scamming, robbing selling drugs has never been so easy in Luxembourg it seems. Why work , when obviously nothing is done.

  9. What could help is if these muggings and attacks would be filmed and spread on social media. I think it would be shocking yes, but maybe it would be taken much more seriously (ppl would be scared and make demands from the police and governement). Luxembourg loves to hide things under the rug.

  10. What can we do?

Nothing, except being happy he/they just took your money/watch/phone.

We don’t have the right to protect ourself, even papperspray is handled as lethal weapo, so…

Someone needs to start a petition about the right to protect ourselfs, like in every other country, no?

  11. The cops do Fuck all, I was once mugged in front of auchan at the tram station. When I asked if they could check the cameras they blatantly lied and said that there were none
