Cars written off by road bollards caught on camera

  1. I know it’s fun to laugh at bad drivers, but there comes a point where surely the council have to accept that there’s a fundamental issue with the design, signage, markings or a combination of.

  2. *The width restriction on Woodmere Avenue in Watford was introduced a decade ago to deter larger vehicles from using the road but regular accidents have occurred in recent months since it was made even narrower.*

Most of those vehicles ruined were small cars just driving normally.

  3. In Scandinavia some years ago they launched project zero with the aim of zero road deaths. Their starting point was understanding the cause of accidents via the worlds largest accident study. Over 80% was poor road design, lighting etc. Although speed could be a contributor it was often not the cause. Perhaps road planning and enforcement in the UK could bear that in mind and stop the obsession with speed, 20mph zones and bollards.

  4. I drive past here all the time in my Mondeo. The road is proper residential with a 20 limit and some savage speed bumps (the comment mentioning the 50 to 20 is kinda correct, but that’s the main road you turn left or right onto through a set of lights).

I have no issue with the restriction. Line up my right hand morrow with the bollard and through. Watching the video I’m pretty stunned people approach it so fast. You’re either coming of a busy junction or a residential road so should be taking it easy. Just drive better? 🤷
