It’s all those gold teeth and jewelry that they assumed. I heard this on a great Arte documentary about gold the other day. Would never have guessed Germany had more than almost every other country… There is a probably a few billion that were seized from us after WW2 and another few billion “locked” somewhere in Switzerland (“Nazi gold”, interesting read on [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_gold#:~:text=The%20Nazis%20looted%20the%20assets,believed%20to%20have%20been%20looted)).
