Gardaí fear members could be killed when called out to manage anti-social behaviour

  1. They not fit for purpose if they are afraid and intimidated by 15 years old. There is something seriously wrong here.

  2. So… they’re afraid that Gardaí may be killed, so they’ll just let civilians be killed instead?

  3. I mean….. wouldn’t thay technically be a possibility responding to any crime?

If the garda are afraid of danger and use it as a excuse to not respond to crime then they are not fit for purpose

  4. Can’t say I would really blame any individual gardai to be honest. As an organization though they’re seriously failing in dealing with these events.

And watching footage of two single gardai like that can’t be helping recruitment either I’d imagine.

  5. As a foreigner:

In other country they would send multiple “paddywagons” full of units to control the situation.
Are the Gards so harshly understaffed that they only send 2?

Or is this more of a political problem, because as far as I can judge the information they seem to be travelers? That makes the situation even more delicate, or?

Please don’t get me wrong, I am genuinely interested and want to know more and understand.

  6. Tbh once they saw the scumbags wrecked a lidl with a digger and no blowback from guards, it was a basic green light to them all they were untouchable

  7. To be fair I appreciate where they are coming from.

Solution – hire way more guards so they can move in teams. Would require a pay raise to attract recruits.

  8. *”Hold on, nobody said I’ve have to stop criminals.”*

Do fuck all for robberies etc. Won’t patrol streets. Won’t confront 14 year olds.

    They’re fucking useless.

  9. What you need here is a permanent public order unit. Properly trained and equipped. These public order outrages are happening more frequently. Also very stiff penalties for attacking any front line workers. If you punch a guard or hit an a&e nurse or throw a brick through a fire engine windscreen you should know you will go away for a couple of years. Of course all these solutions require investment and political will so I won’t be holding my breath.

  10. Doesn’t ireland have the emergency response unit? Also, would you not send down more than two lads in a garda car?

  11. Does every generation not have a percentage of scrotes? The 90s were full of em. Dodgy areas back then too. I was jumped a few times back then. Mate had 8 of his teeth kicked out by a gang of teens. It’s not a new problem. They will all eventually grow up to become judge Nolan.

  12. >it is about a review of the Public Order Act which was brought in in 1994 to see if there are new offences that need to be introduced by way of legislation such as the filming of gardaí, such as the uploading of content.

The article did point out some fair issues, like new recruits promised that didn’t materialize etc.

But I can’t see filming Gardai this is an issue? What is that going to achieve?

  13. For me it seems that a fatality like this (a Garda being killed) has to happen for the government to do something.

  14. About time the government stopped pussy footing around. Tell the local TD sorry but your area is a warzone and we are encouraging the local police to go heavy handed. Swarm the place with cops.

Feel sorry for the sound folk there but it’s a total free for all in that Kip and about time some order was restored

  15. Government needs to invest more in the Garda. They need to be better trained and equipped for dealing with scum like this. A good taser in the neck is what some of these delinquents need.

  16. I was talking to an old fella on the bus last time I was in Dublin. He said the crime rate was really bad in his neighbourhood back in his day so a group of friends got together and formed a ‘neighbourhood watch’.

Basically it was Homer Simpson and the sack of doorknobs. They doled out hidings to underage thugs all over town, he said once they’d lost a tooth or two they calmed the fuck down and the crime rate fell again.

Masked vigilantes is what we need. No joke.

  17. The Gauards should never be caught in this position. It’s a psychological thing. The police have to win the encounter and people need to know that’s what is going to happen (Canada, Australia style policing…) I
Gauards are legacy force to provide a service to a community that is largely going extinct… It’s a modern world now.

Also there has to be tougher consequences on parents with kids who cause trouble
