  1. Not a good look when your finance director flouts the rules and doesn’t keep up with their tax obligations.

  2. Scummy landlords should be held accountable no matter the party.

Why does it feel like such a high percentage of government officials are corrupt in some way or another?

  3. >Louth-based landlord Des Mackin, who has been Sinn Féin’s finance director for more than two decades

He’s not doing a great job at it, they’re election spending decelerations are out of whack to the tune of 300k. Probably something he should have picked up on…

  4. YFGers must be struggling to decide whether to upvote this or not.

It attacks SF but was posted by their most hated media outlet.

  5. Of course we couldn’t have even one big political party that weren’t like this.

There are 3 political parties who garner the most votes in this country and all 3 are corrupt beyond measure. Stop putting any of these parties’ candidates down for your number 1, they’ll only squander it and line their own pockets. I’ve been voting soc dems number 1 for as long as I’ve been able to and it’s purely because they’re not insane and they’re not FF, FG or SF.

  6. There are a few universal truths: it doesn’t matter the who the biggest party is in Irish politics there will be corrupt politicians in it. No one gets ahead in politics without stepping on people and once you start that it becomes a slippery slope. You see others doing it as well and it gets normalised, and since everyone is doing it, it is grand. After all it is not against the law or if it is, it is just guidelines or a silly little law. Sure the other side is worse and everyone is doing it. And the money is so good. And sure the students are just grateful to have a place to sleep. Ahh sure they they could get another 2-3 in the place and reduce the rent overall. The money is good. And sure you need to get a decent place for the kids as they are going off to college soon, you don’t want them stuck in sone slum with a landlord bleeding them dry. They deserve better. And have you seen the price of houses today? And you don’t want your precious darlings to travel for hours on a bus. After all they are your kids. And you have the other loans to finish paying off. What can you do ? But it is not like you are slumlord is it ??? You can raise the rent a little bit!

I am not even surprised or disappointed in SF for letting this happen. I more angry about all the politicians and civil servants who let the housing crisis become so normalised. I expected basic leadership and foresight from them but so many have benefitted from the housing policy we had, it made a lot of the older generations so much richer. They all liked the money too much.

  7. Slumlord…..people of this country should work, to force him,and every other one out of society

These people offer nothing to society

  8. I’ve seen so many Ditch articles removed on here because the source is “unreliable” but yet this stays up? It would be nice to get a clarification on whether the users of this sub are free to post Ditch articles or not. Are they banned as a source on this sub or not?

Personally I think they do good investigative journalism but it calls into question the credibility of the sub if mods are going to allow certain articles from the Ditch to stay up depending entirely on who they’re attacking in the article. There needs to be some consistency.

  9. I know someone in the planning department in kerry, the amount of stories of healy rea and the like causing them trouble doing illegal shit is astronomical.

If you dug into his property portfolio you’d find enough dodgy stuff to bankrupt him in legal fees.

  10. As a SF voter I would like to see him get prison time for this sort of shit. Unfortunately the country is set up so that white collar crime is not punished, and this is classed as white collar crime, despite it directly affecting the tenants. I’d go as far as to say the living standards of some apartments in Ireland are tantamount to violence against the inhabitants.

  11. If your a politician your essentially a used car sales man but selling yourself.
They are all corrupt to some extent. Especially the ones that call others corrupt.
